Private apartment in a traditional country house
A private and very comfortable space in an idyllic location. Once here you don’t need a car as this famously pretty village has a variety of small shops including a very good mini-supermarket, an award-winning cafe, a pub and an excellent restaurant. From the house you can walk straight out into wonderful countryside and as Shere was on the route of the 2012 Olympic Games cycling road race, it’s also great for cyclists. Places of interest include Grange Park Opera which is 10 minutes drive away This is a very comfortable apartment in a traditional country house. The apartment offers the space to relax and unwind in light and airy surroundings. The apartment is self-contained and has a private entrance. We very much enjoy meeting our guests and are always available to answer questions or to recommend places to visit. This is a private apartment, however, and is best suited to those who are wanting to enjoy the peace and quiet of the environment without very much interaction with others. Shere is a charming village which, combined with its convenient access, makes it an ideal location for a holiday break. These factors also mean that it is popular as a setting for film locations including "The Holiday" which used our driveway and grounds in the film. Situated on the North Downs in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we are fortunate to have a variety of good walks direct from the house. Shere is on the National Cycle Network and cyclists are welcome to use our secure storage for two bicycles. National Trust Houses within a short drive include Hatchlands Park, Polesdon Lacey, Leith Hill Tower and the recently opened Leith Hill Place (former home of Ralph Vaughan Williams and where he composed The Lark Ascending). Clandon was tragically gutted by fire in 2015 but is occasionally open to view progress with the salvage operation and future rebuilding plans. West Horsley Place is the new venue for Grange Park Opera and is a 10 minute drive away. Silent Pool Gin distillery and Albury Organic Vineyard are about 20 mins walk (3 mins drive). Tours have to be booked ahead. The Astro turf tennis court is available on request. The village offers a variety of places to eat including a cafe, a pub and an excellent restaurant (requires booking). The village shop has a good range of food for those who prefer to cater for themselves. Shere is very conveniently placed for road links being situated just off the A25. The A3 leads directly into central London and the A3/M25 junction is approximately 20 minutes drive. Heathrow and Gatwick Airports are both approximately 40 mins drive away. Guildford Station offers fast and regular services to London. Closer (and with easier and cheaper parking) is Clandon station which has trains every half-an-hour to London Waterloo (51 minutes). Our closest station is Gomshall which is a 4 minute drive (approximately 30 mins walk) and which has free parking. This offers a limited service but is on the direct route to Gatwick Airport. A breakfast box is left in the kitchen for guests to make their own breakfast. The box includes tea, coffee, milk, bread, musli, eggs and bacon etc. Dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice. We have a dog (a Labrador) and a cat but neither have access to the apartment.
