Lady Jane Grey, Sudeley Castle, Cotswolds
Lady Jane Grey, Sudeley Castle - sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms
Lady Jane Grey Cottage is one of Sudeley Castle's largest Country Cottages, and is named after Lady Jane Grey, who lived at Sudeley Castle before her brief nine-day reign as Queen of England. This lovely cottage was originally part of a paper mill, which was restored to make two cottages (Lady Jane Grey and Princess Elizabeth) and two apartments (St Kenelm and Oliver Cromwell), preserving the original exposed walls and beams throughout. (St Kenelm sits directly above Princess Elizabeth and Oliver Cromwell sits directly above Lady Jane Grey.) The accommodation is arranged over two floors. Guests enter from a covered porch into a small hallway, with handy coat hooks, and pass through to an open-plan area with a desk and chair, under stairs storage (baby and cleaning equipment) and a very well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen windows look out on to the private courtyard. Off the kitchen, and down three stairs, is the dining area with a large oak table, comfortably seating 5 guests. At the end of this large open plan space is the living area, which leads out to the private courtyard. Upstairs (via a carpeted staircase with handrail) there is one double bedroom, one spacious twin bedroom, a single bedroom and a family bathroom with full-size bath and over-bath shower. Contractors are undertaking building works near the property during 2022 from Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm, and you may encounter some noise disturbance during your visit. Ground Floor Kitchen Area: The kitchen at Lady Jane Grey is very well equipped, with plenty of storage space in the distinctive, off-white cabinets with wooden work surfaces. A welcome pack of teabags, Nespresso coffee pods, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, jam/honey mini pots, boiled sweets is provided for your first day at the Cottage. Living/Dining Area: Step down from the kitchen area to the dining/living area which is dominated by the paper mill's original stone wall. The dining area has a large circular oak table, seating five, while the other end features two large, sink-in sofas, a flat-screen TV and DVD player and oak coffee table. Double doors lead out to the courtyard with a table and seating, the perfect place to relax in the evening sun after a day exploring the Cotswolds.
