Studio,The Garden Room, 1 Birkheads
A secluded private studio in our woodland garden. Perfect base to explore Beamish. Our Garden Room was built by an architect in the 60's and renovated by us 5 years ago to include real wood floor, wood burning stove and small ensuite toilet and sink. Its low-tech and simple - allowing you to switch off and enjoy our rural location. The Garden Room is a unique, private cabin approx 10 metres from our house, nestled in our wild woodland garden. The room is a large studio with comfy double sofa bed, bookcase, table/desk and wood burning stove with French windows which open into the conservatory in fine weather facing west so you can enjoy the sunset. It has a small ensuite bathroom which has a toilet and sink (cold water only although kettle provided). You can arrange with us to have showers at the house. Guests have access to the main studio and private bathroom. We have space for 1 car directly behind the Garden Room but there is space for 1 more on the lane nearby if needed. We have a young family and both work so this is a busy household but we are around at the house a fair bit. We'd be happy to try to accommodate all requests for help throughout your stay. We have more flexibility Friday through to Monday (inclusive) so may be able to offer lifts to/from town or to the nearby attractions (Beamish Museum, Tanfield Railway) or fabulous country pubs. Please let us know in advance if you d like to arrange to use the shower at the house during your stay. Fiona is a qualified Day Walk Leader (BEL Level 3 ) please ask if you would like to book a Guided Walk in the area as part of your stay, or if you would just like to borrow an OS map. This area is rich in heritage with beautiful, unspoilt countryside and woodlands offering a great day outdoors. Please also see our website (Website hidden by Airbnb) We are the end cottage in a row of 5 Railwaymens Cottages built in 1852 alongside the railway - now the Bowes Railway Path. This is a rural location close to Beamish which is extremely popular with walkers, cyclists and bird watchers, however we are less than 6 miles from the centre of Newcastle (approx £15 in a taxi) and less than 2 miles off the A1 at Team Valley and under 5 miles from the Metro Centre so we are still handy if you want to be in the city. Beamish Museum is under 2 miles away. You can walk to the famous Tanfield Railway along the Bowes Railway path (15mins walk), and a further 10 mins walk will take you to Causey Arch and our nearest pub The Causey Arch Inn. There are several lovely pubs within 3 miles of the Garden Room. The house and Garden Room studio have recently been featured in House Beautiful magazine (April 2017 edition). We have space for 1 car behind the Garden Room, however there is more space in the lane. You can leave your bikes in the Conservatory overnight. The nearest bus stops are approx 1 mile away - Tanfield Railway bus stop takes you to Newcastle and Durham, Kibblesworth bus stop takes you through the Team Valley into Gateshead and also County Durham -please ask us and we'll help you out with bus routes and numbers. There are are a few small steps up to the garden room. You may use our garden to relax in during fine weather but please note we do have a very friendly dog who also occasionally uses the garden.
