Franshoek Farm - Ideal Self-catering Cottage

The Stables, is a charming self-catering cottage situated on Franshoek Farm, in the Witterberg Mountains, near Ficksburg, in the Free State. The cottage is located on the sandstone bluff, over-looking the polo field with a magnificent view of the Valley. As farm stay guests, you enjoy a fully equipped self-catering kitchen which enjoins a central living space with a fireplace and concertina doors which open to the magnificent view. There is a braai and central firepit with wood provided. The "Valley" is a truly magical place to relax and rejuvenate. Guests of all ages are welcome on our farm, as well as their pets. The space boasts sweeping views, fresh air, and fresh mountain spring water. Enjoy lovely farms walks to the cave and waterfall, a detoxifying steam and swim at the WetLove Garden pool, yoga, horse rides, fishing or just resting. Contact Tracey, for more information about any of these activities. ; - ) Guests have access to the entire holistic farm which includes 900 ha of mountains and grasslands, stocked with sheep, a few cattle, horses, chickens, and wildlife. The hiking trails have been recently re-marked and offer peaceful days in the mountains to clear the head and soothe the soul. Someone is always on site to help if needed, and we can facilitate walks, the steam, music events and the like. If the group would rather be left alone, the unique space offers a measure of privacy where they can completely do their own thing. The farm has lovely walks, and an overhang and waterfall to explore in the mountains. There are also 6 dams on the property, which are stocked with bass for fishing. Our lovely polo ponies can be booked for outrides. Franshoek Farm borders Thaba Thabo Nature Reserve, where game drives and /or game horse rides may be booked. Once here, it is lovely to park the car and not drive until one leaves again. The mountains can be reached and explored on foot. If one plans to explore a bit further (off the farm) in Rosendal or Clarens, a vehicle with high clearance is recommended as the gravel roads are not always in the best repair. It adds an element of adventure to the experience! : - ) This is a working farm. Pets are welcome, but must be responsibly looked after. The Eastern Free State is a hub of outdoor activity and quaint country experiences. There is the annual The Cherry Festival in November, several MTB challenges, game safaris on horseback, farmers markets, craft and art fairs and more.
