Being near limestone country, beside the many attractions along the River Lot there are caves to explore, le Gouffre Padirac and Pech Merle to name two, and the magnificent cliff village of Rocamadour is a half hour drive away, as is the scenic village of St Cirq La Popie perched above the River Lot. There are also several prehistoric sites nearby such as Le Plage de Pterosaurs (Pterosaur Beach) and a little further afield are the world famous caves at Lascaux with their prehistoric wall paintings. This part of France is renowned for food and wine, and weekly markets are held around the area on most days: Cahors has two markets a week, and the market at Prayssac every Friday is noted for fresh quality food.
