A 17th century, beautiful cottage set in Chawton village, and a minute's walk from Jane Austen's house & museum. It has good access to London via train or car and is the perfect escape to a quintessential English village and countryside experience. We love the cottage for its unique charm and warmth, and we hope to extend that to you during your stay! Bay Tree is a unique 17th Century cozy, and inviting English cottage. There are two double bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom, sitting room (with fire place), dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. There is a small secluded back garden with lawn, flowers and an outdoor eating area. We want you to feel completely at home, and the cottage really has a special charm. We look after Bay Tree with love and care and wish our guests to feel the same. All of the cottage & garden. We aim to always meet and greet our guests. We live locally so will always be on hand for anything you need. We also offer where possible to pick guests up from the Alton railway station free of charge (we do work so it would have to fit around our own working arrangements). We are also happy to assist in any way with recommendations for local restaurants, tourist information, and our favourite walks and hikes. Our main priority is that you have a lovely time and that you leave Chawton wanting to come back. Chawton was home to the novelist Jane Austen. She spent the last 8 years of her life in a 17th century house which is now preserved as a museum in her memory. The village is located in the South Downs National Park (perfect for walkers and explorers), is ~16 miles from historic Winchester city, and offers a selection of fantastic pubs nearby. Other nearby local attractions include Gilbert White's House in the neighbouring village of Selbourne and the highly popular Watercress Steam Railway Line, which runs from Alton (a town 5 mins away) to to another quaint village, Alresford. Chawton is also superbly located to explore Hampshire, Surrey (& the rest of the South of England!). There is excellent access to major roads (A31 & A32). Heathrow & Gatwick are approximately within an hour's drive. Alton town is less than a mile, the Alton Train Station is 1.6 miles away (trains run every half hour to London Waterloo, the journey takes just over an hour). There are also buses in the town running to Winchester, Basingstoke and Guildford. Portsmouth, the historic naval city, and the sea is 30 miles south. There are nine steep stairs to get up to the two bedrooms. Please respect our neighbours & the village as a whole with respect to noise levels etc There is parking on the street outside the cottage The cottage will be supplied with milk, tea, coffee, breakfast cereals etc.
