The house is situated in the mountain region of Croatia overlooking the river, but the Adriatic Sea coast is in a 60 kilometres and can be visited in one day trip. It is a small wooden house, built in 2008. The vacation rental home is situated in the mountain region of Croatia, Gorski kotar, next to river Kupa. It is a rustically decorated wooden house, built in 2008. On the ground floor there is a spacious living room with kitchen and balcony overlooking the Kupa river, less than 100 meters away from your house. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms for 6 persons. The house is located in the quiet old village Dolus, surrounded by forest. It is suitable for people who adore nature, for fishermen, hunters, climbers, kayakers, hikers or just families escaping from traffic and stress. The nearest settlement is Brod na Kupi, 5 km away, where you will find a bakery, grocery shop, restaurant and a post office. The village Doluš is accessible by car. There is a road to the holiday house, transferring its last 1600 meters into a macadam road. Within the driving distance of 1 hour you can visit National park Risnjak as well as Adriatic cost towns of Crikvenica and Opatija. The vicinity of Adriatic sea gives special charm for people wishing to combine peaceful vacation with sea and river water sport activities. Also, National park Plitvice lakes and capital of Croatia Zagreb can all be visited in one day trip. Most of all, stay in Kupa river valley is interesting for people who came to Gorski kotar to visit its numerous protected areas of nature. The nearest attraction is hardly mentioned anywhere: Zeleni Vir & Vražji Prolaz special geomorphological reserve. It is spectacular breathtaking landscape characterized by a great force of water, magnificent rocks and lush vegetation. In a one hour distance there is also the Risnjak national park, with its numerous walking and hiking options. Interesting protected areas of nature nearby are cave Lokvarka and few other small caves and karst phenomena - some of them situated in the beautiful Golubinjak Forest Park. Within less than one hour driving distance, there is also the Kamačnik protected landscape, the source of Kupa river area... etc. A village of Doluš is interesting by itself. It has rich history, that originates from times when village was full of human activities. Nowadays native people mostly moved out to bigger cities. The nature is clean and intact, majority of ploughlands are progressively overgrown by meadows and forest. Flora and fauna are rich and various. Numerous protected species lives there. The Kupa river valley is also known as the 'butterflay valley', becouse many butterfly species have safe habitat in it. The butterfly abundance came as a consequence of great plant diversity. Despite the promotional "butterflay valley" title, this area is extremely rich in biodiversity so could also be called "the valley of birds", "wildlife valley", etc. In 19th century there was an attempt to make Kupa river navigable for small merchant ships -the remains of the channel are still visible in Doluš. Old, partly abadoned villages (all in a walking distance from your house), offer many magnificent panoramas. The old church in neighbouring Kocjani is full of interesting antique features. It still has its function on sundays. On the ground floor there is a spacious living room with kitchen and balcony overlooking the Kupa river, only 60 meters away from the house. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms accomodating 6 persons. Additional extendable sofa bed for two is available in the living room. Guests can access and use all rooms and equipment of the house. The real fact is that not only butterflies, but wildlife in general is extraordinary well preserved in that area. So the Kupa river valley is good destination for your birdwatching of fishing holidays, wildlife photography... The enviroment of Kupa canyon supports a broad range of wildlife interests and is suitable for all people who adore nature. Within the driving distance of 1 hour you can visit National park Risnjak as well as Adriatic cost towns of Crikvenica and Opatija. The island of Krk, the biggest Croatian island is also near and accessible by car. The vicinity of Adriatic sea gives special charm for people wishing to combine mountain freshness with sea sport activities. Also, National park Plitvice lakes and capital of Croatia Zagreb can all be visited in one day trip. Unfortunatelly the Doluš area is not covered by convenient public transit, so you'll have to come by the car. There is a road to the holiday house, transferring its last 1600 meters into a macadam road. The nearest bus station is in the settlement of Brod na Kupi. Nearest train station is in the city of Delnice. Please note that a bit forward on my property I keep few beehives. Usually house guests never even note the presence of bees there. But occasionaly, during some sunny springtime afternoons, bees could make trouble buzzing around the house. The river, forest and meadows are full of wildlife, some beautiful but even some unpleasant insects, as well two very rare protected specimen of viper snakes. So, responsible behavior and appropriate footwear and clothing are required!
