Romantic riverside retreat

At the end of a small lane overlooking the beautiful River Mira, lies Casa Boakoster. Uninhabited for 25 years the house has been lovely restored blending traditional Portuguese architecture with clean interior woodworking. Build by Dutch Artist Bas Koster who transformed this once-derelict property into a beautiful, charming villa. Bas designed the entire house and the garden and made almost everything himself from the roof to the staircase and from the art on the walls to the furniture and the garden. There is a beautiful sun terrace and closed in garden with many areas to relax. Open-plan living space with 2 floors, upstairs is the master bedroom with queen size bed. Downstairs there is a sofa couch which transfers in to a double bed ( 140 cm). Situated in the lovely town of Odemira the house is very strategically located. With restaurants and shops within walking distance and still located near the river in a private setting. Guests have access to a great garden with hammock, sitting area with BBQ and a big sun terrace. Inside there is a modern kitchen with juicer, water boiler, coffee maker, oven, stove and washing machine. There are a lot of books in different languages and board games. There is a baby cot upstairs. All linen and towels are included. Downstairs I have a pellet stove which heats the house in the colder months of the year. There is a German lady who comes by the house before and after every changeover. She will make sure the house is in mint condition upon you arrival. The house is located so you can walk to shops and restaurants...and walk back after a few glasses of delicious Portuguese wine. In the morning you can buy bread from a tiny bakery at the end of the street. Follow the street underneath the house to the left and you got to a little chocolate factory and directly underneath the house starts a lovely board walk along the river Mira. Odemira is short drive away from the nearby beaches. Within 30 minutes you find more than 10 beaches. From secluded bays, to rugged cliffs and charming villages with restaurants serving up some of the best seafood in Europe. Odemira is served by regional bus service connecting with other towns in the region and beyond. There is also a daily bus service to Lisbon. The bus station is a short walk from the house. From the nearby town of Funchera (30 min van Odemira), trains leave for Lisbon and Faro a few times a day. Both Lisbon and Faro have several rental car companies, and provide very good free maps or even GPS which will be great for finding your way around.
