Romantic Cottage
Our Romantic cottage was originally built in the 16th century but has been lovingly restored to combine a high standard of comfort with traditional stonework and a dramatic fireplace which provides for a cosy winter fire and makes the cottage available all year round. The cottage is located in a semi-rural area but is only a five minute drive from the Medieval Town of Vire where there are plenty of restaurants, bars, sporting activities off road cycle paths, beautiful walks, rivers and forests. Surrounded by 5 acres of land there are plenty of picnic areas, where you can enjoy a bottle of wine in the sunshine. The mezzanine double bedroom overlooks the open plan living area with lounge, dining room and modern kitchen facilities. Wi-Fi, Flat screen French and English TV and a selection of DVDs The cottage is 5 minutes drive from the historic town of Vire where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and sporting activities in the nearby area, including swimming pools, golf, fishing, pedalos & boat hire, off road cycle paths and local markets. Vire also has an 18 hole municipal Golf Course that is very well maintained and overlooks Lac de la Dathée, where you can take part in water sports, go fishing or stroll around the 5km perimeter and enjoy the peace and quiet at one of the many picnic areas. The lake is bordered in parts by forests and has a weir and a small waterfall. The Bayeux Tapestry, Domfront, Fourges, the D Day Landing Beaches in the North, Mont Saint Michel which is surrounded by a magnificent bay and the British War Cemetery, all of which are within an hour’s drive. At the hillside town of Mortain the river slices through the rocky gorges down to the woodland basin of the Selune River, creating spectacular waterfalls with scenic walks and picnic spots. The mightiest La Grande Cascade is the largest waterfall in the North and West of France. The River See is renowned for being one of the best Salmon and Trout Rivers in France. You can go fly fishing in Brousains or in Vengeons. The area is great for walking and cycling, with many marked trails - two of which are 5 minutes from the cottage. The Velorail at Pont Erambourg is an eight mile return biking circuit and takes around one hour and forty five minutes to complete. Kayaking and rock climbing are available in the Suisse Normand region. We are five minutes drive from the nearest large town so a car is recommended. Please park directly next to the cottage on the left hand side If you are coming for a special occasion - please email any requests for meals, flowers, wine etc. Bed linen and towels are provided, so is your first basket of logs for the wood burner, further baskets of logs can be purchased. The cottage is a non-smoking environment, if you do need to smoke please do so outside and dispose of your cigarettes afterwards. To safeguard against cancellation charges and other unforeseen eventualities we strongly recommend cancellation Insurance.
