This tiny fisherman's cottage flat is tucked away in the old fishing village of Ferryden, on the east coast of Scotland. Though small, this is the perfect getaway for those seeking some peace and quiet and access to stunning coastal walks. Anyone interested in tiny houses - this is for you! Although it's no longer a fishing village, Ferryden still has its unique charm and character with views over the river South Esk, home to seabirds, seals and sometimes even dolphins. Insta: @weenookbythesea Built in 1890, over the years this property was home to fishing families and was used for a long time to store and dry nets. We are proud to say we don't have a TV, so this would really suit those who want to 'switch off' for a time (don't worry - we do have wi-fi!) enjoy the local flora and fauna and explore the coastline. Guests also have use of our two bicycles, if they wish, which we keep in our shed. Please be aware that when we say tiny, we mean tiny! At 30m square, our flat is very small but cosy. The bed is a small double, so those who require more space might find it a bit cramped, however, there is a fold-out sofa bed in the living room. As such our space is ideal for solo travellers who are looking for a wee refuge although of course, we love to accommodate couples too! Any more than two however, and it gets a bit cramped. This flat also tends to attract creative souls who appreciate the character and location of our cosy, wee nook. Our space is professionally cleaned and surfaces disinfected between guests, any special requests are catered for on enquiry and all linen is laundered between guests at 90 degrees. Feel free to browse the bookshelves and enjoy a good read! I will be readily available over the phone and my Mum, who lives nearby will be readily available in person. Ferryden is a sleepy village, popular with locals for the coastal walks and seaside views the surrounding neighbours are very quiet but friendly - and you won't hear a pin drop at night! Our front windows look out onto the river South Esk and you'll be surprised by the huge ships that sail past the window, on their way to Montrose Harbour - a large, industrial port which was developed in the 1970s to accommodate the oil rigs and their supply vessels. Here you will see old blend with new, with the tiny boats and original features of the village juxtaposed with the enormity of the port, further down the river. At high tide, in the summer we have even seen dolphins swim up the river to feast on salmon. Keep your eyes peeled for the odd seal and plenty of seabird varieties. Guest who come in the autumn are in for a a treat as the sky is filled with tens of thousands of migrating geese who choose Montrose Basin as their winter home. Listen out for their unmistakable cries throughout the day. There is no private parking but there is usually plenty of space to park your car on either side of the street. There is a bus stop across from the local pub, Diamond Lils, where you can catch a bus to take you into Montrose. Or, if you're feeling active we keep two bikes in the shed which you are more than welcome to borrow, just be sure to return them to the right shed! Check the handbook for further details. We can't stress enough that this is a tiny house, so if you prefer more space, then this might not be the best place for you at 30m square. The double bed is small, but there is the option of the foldout sofa bed in the living room. Please note that the decking to the right outside belongs to the neighbours downstairs and not for guest use. You can follow our Insta account @weenookbythesea
