This pretty traditional brick and flint cottage is the first in a terrace of three cottages. The accommodation is spacious, with a large superking bedroom, a twin bedroom and a single. The rural setting is wonderful, with a big wild garden round the cottage. This is very much our second home: staying here will feel more like staying in a friend’s house than in a rental cottage. We don’t put away all our things, hoping that you will enjoy an environment with a more personal feel to it. This cottage has unusually generous room sizes compared to many Norfolk cottages but what makes it really special is the quiet location away from any village and set in beautiful rolling countryside with lovely rural views - as well as the big garden full of flowers Guests have access to all of the cottage (kitchen, dining room, sitting room, three bedrooms and bathroom) plus the outhouse (wetroom with shower, and garden room with sofa and kitchenette, containing second fridge, washing machine and sink). They can use all the half acre of garden including wonderful padded swing seat in warmer months. They can’t use the locked garage or big black shed. They can park their car on hard standing behind five bar gate if they want to, or on the drive. There is a wood-fired bread oven in the garden and guests are welcome to use this if they contact us first. (We invite contributions to firewood costs if the oven is used a lot). I am always available for guests to contact by text, phone or email, but I live three hours away so am not usually available to meet guests in person. We have a great cleaner who does the changeovers and we have good local tradesmen who can help should there be any problems of any kind. Sadly we don’t live close enough to provide welcome baskets on arrival ! We are about six miles from the nearest coast but all the great beaches and salt marshes of the North Norfolk coast are within easy reach, as is the lovely Georgian town of Holt . There are tons of things to do with children ( crabbing, mud-sliding, nature reserves, railway rides, dinosaur park, seal trips to name but a few) and many historic houses and gardens to visit , not to mention the many beautiful Norfolk churches. This place is a paradise for bird watchers ( we had a brood of tawny owls in our owl box last year, and there are frequently barn owls to watch in the evenings) and the garden hums with insect life all summer, including many butterflies in the wild garden. There are bats in the evening and frogs, toads and newts in cool places under stones. Buzzards and kestrels hover over the copse at the back and the hedges are full of yellowhammers, finches, wrens, tits and sparrows. Wagtails often hop around the lawn and the skies are full of gulls, swifts, lapwings and other birds. On a clear night the stars are glorious as there is so little light pollution, and one of the loveliest ways to spend the evening is to watch the sunset from the swing seat, with a drink or two. It is essential to have a car to stay in our cottage because it is too far from any public transport to walk here. The nearest shop is two miles away, but online supermarkets will deliver food if required. The rental fee includes all bed linen and bath towels, but please bring your own beach towels. We try to leave enough loo paper, detergent etc to start your holiday but please bring all your own basics and don’t leave the next guests without the essentials for their first night. ( We live three hours away, so can’t pop in between guests!) Dogs are welcome, but not on furniture or upstairs - please use the stair gate. This is because our cleaner has had such trouble getting muddy paw prints off the sheets! Please be sure to pick up any poo from the garden, it matters very much for the next guests, especially when they have young children.
