Ancram / Artist run Victorian / Bohemian
Welcome to 1301 "Art and Living" Your hosts, James + Bob are both art- professionals; a ceramist and painter with studios in the neighboring historically registered Simons General Store. Your bohemian retreat , formerly the Holmes and Vongal residence, has only had three owners since 1901 and has been painstakingly restored. The Victorian home combines comfort and an understated sophistication in each of the rooms . The works of both artists surround you. It was always a priority to present an eclectic suite of rooms and make your escape all the more special . The spaces span a huge range of design elements and hopefully each and every one of the spaces will speak to and welcome you. Our close proximity to the property and passion for gardening mean that we are close to hand and available for any foreseen needs you might have during your stay. A short distance from Hudson , Great Barrington, Millerton , the culture-rich Berkshires and Catamount and Butternut ski resorts . Ancram is at the heart of the agricultural community in Columba County. Since 2017 the hamlet has undergone significant changes ; Ancram Opera House which has a summer program of performances , the acquisition of Simons General Store and it's total refurbishment , and the Little Store which os slated to open July 4th 2021 and the gallery space Surface Library which is part of the 1301 compound. The beautiful rolling hills that sit between Ancram and the Connecticut border present numerous opportunities for exploration. It is popular cycling country, and the Harlem Valley Rail Trail which has undergone considerable expansion, runs all the way from Millerton to Philmont. A car is essential as restaurants and places of interest are a minimum of 20 mins away. Your hosts will have numerous maps and brochures once attractions to hand .
