Private appartement in beautiful secret garden in Opijnen next to river Waal. Spacious living room, separate kitchen and bathroom, 2 double-bedrooms (optional), terrace with fire place and Jeu de Boules and childrens playground. Ideal place for families! Outside: labyrint, volleybal field and trampoline, garden with many flowers and lots of fruits. The floodlands are perfect for hiking, swimming, canoeing, cycling and fishing. The appartment is located in "de Geheime Hof", a secret garden with astonishing views, roses and plenty of fruits, free to eat. The appartment is completely private, with a fully equiped kitchen (inluding oven and microwave). From the cosy living room you can access the outside terrace, where you can enjoy the evening breeze around a campfire. The appartment is basic but clean and the bedrooms have access to the other outside terrace next to the Jeu de Boules space. Waking up with the sounds of many birds, that is one of the characteristics of staying in the Geheime Hof. Visitors have full privacy and the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and outside terraces are only for the use of the visitor. The garden is being shared with a few chickens, cats and sporadically a dog. At the back of the yard, there are goats and storks at the bordering neighbours place. The wooden bench on top of the dyke gives a spectacular view on the river Waal and its floodlands, and it is a favorite place for romantic visitors to drink a glass of wine watching the sunset. Although visitors can enjoy their full privacy, we are always available to answer questions, or give you suggestions for exploring the area. We will welcome you with a drink, but respect your privacy. The founders of the Geheime Hof live on the adjecent plot, which is their own private part of the secret garden. De Geheime Hof is located in the small village of Opijnen, originally a small settlement in the fruit basket of the Netherlands, "the Betuwe", where mainly cherries were traded and shipped via the river Waal. The village is cosy and people are friendly. There is a small restaurant and supermarkets are in neighbouring villages on short cycling distance. Opijnen is beautifully located next to river Waal, and the views to "the other side" (for instance the town of Zaltbommel) are breath taking. There are plenty of adventurous possibilities in the area: cannoeing on the river "Linge", fishing in fresh water lakes or rivers, hiking (Opijnen is part of the "Pieterpad trail"), cycling (including small ferry boats to the other side of the Waal), sightseeing to several windmills, fortresses, castles and gardens. The area is known for its fruits: apples, cherries, prunes and peres. If you have missed the blossom, go and pick your own fruits in one of the many orchards! Historical towns in the area are: Tiel (bombarded during World War 2); Buren (a town with a heritage of the Dutch Royal Family) and Zaltbommel (a wall surrounded settlement next to the Martinus Nijhoff bridge, which was also bombarded during WW2). Big cities on a 30 minutes car, bus or train drive are: Utrecht and Den Bosch, both beautifull and historical cities with many cultural festivals, musea, canal cruises, bars and restaurants. Visitors can make use of bikes for a small fee. If you need child seats, kindly let us know. Transport to and from the nearest trainstations can be arranged in consultation with the appartment owners. There is also a bus connection from the village to nearest towns like Zaltbommel, Tiel and Geldermalsen. From these locations there are regular train connections to the bigger cities, like Den Bosch, Utrecht and Dordrecht (near Rotterdam). Although the appartment has no washing machine, it is possible to arrange laundry services for just a small fee. Please ask us if you are in need of laundry services.
