Swallow Cottage is a two bedroom holiday rental suitable for 2 couples or families (please note both beds are doubles). It has its own south facing garden with a patio area under a pergola. We are newly (Nov 2017) listed on AirBnB but have a 5 star rating on Owners Direct and Holiday Lettings (Trip Advisor). There has been a Mill at Itteringham since the Domesday Book. The current mill building dates from 1778 and was originally converted into a residence by Lord and Lady Walpole in 1938. The cottages are in a converted barn opposite the Mill. The whole property sits in a 4.6 acres site which has the River Bure running through it. Much of the acreage is garden. Itteringham Mill is a renewable energy demonstrator site with micro-hydro-turbine, water source heat pump and solar panels. Guests have full use of the Mill's extensive gardens. Please note that the river is unfenced, not especially deep, but contains much soft silt, so children need to be supervised. Please do not use the Mill's wooden deck overlooking the millpond without invitation. We are available on site to answer questions, give advice or deal with any problems. There is an excellent gastro-pub (The Walpole Arms) at the end of the drive 3 minutes walk away and Itteringham Village has a community-run village shop (5 minutes walk away). The shop has been in continuous operation for over 300 years. We are 10 miles from the coast at Sheringham and about 12 miles from the Broads at Wroxham. Local town is Aylsham with three supermarkets, 3 pubs and a range of family run shops and businesses. There are several very good pub-restaurants in the area as well as National Trust properties such as Blickling Hall (a pleasant 50 minute walk away). The surrounding area is mostly farmland. Apart from many walks in the area, you will need a car or bicycle to get around as public transport is non-existent at Itteringham. Aylsham has a good bus service into Norwich although evening services are limited.
