Desire Tent @ Aterra eco camping

Aterra is an ecological campsite on the Southwest coast of Alentejo, Portugal. We offer guests a unique ‘glamping’ experience in a rustic, yet very comfortable and beautiful, family friendly environment. We invite you to stay in romantic Tent Nestled in a valley covered with woodlands and fruit trees, Aterra offers a luxury camping experience with natural wildlife surroundings. There is a freshwater lake, barbecue facilities and free Wi-Fi. Each individually decorated tent and tipi at Aterra features a small private sun deck with chairs and a large living area with a hand wash basin. There are shared outdoor bathroom facilities with a shower. A buffet breakfast is served daily either in-room or in the dining room where guests can enjoy dishes made from local produce. There are several restaurants and bars serving Portuguese cuisine and wines within a 10 minutes’ drive. Guests can relax in the seating areas, sunbathe lakeside or on the grasslands. Other activities include canoeing, hiking and cycling. There is a children's playground and bike hire is available. Zambujeira Beach and Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina are within a 15-minute drive. Faro Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away. An airport shuttle service is available upon request and the campsite offers free private parking. Hotel Rooms: 7 We have our Private Chef on site who runs the kitchen offering dinners and providing basic facilities and storage space for guests. His cooking is mostly vegetarian utilising as much homegrown and organic produce as possible from the garden and farm. We also have a BBQ area and wood fired Pizza oven with sink and preparation space. The adjoining Reception/Lounge has a large shaded living area for dining plus a lawn and fire space for relaxing and enjoying the view. There is an attached bar and shop offering local and handmade products. SinksOur toilet and shower area is beautifully designed out of wood and bamboo. It is subtly situated under a large cork tree, by the river where you can watch the sunset as you shower. All of our water comes from the site and hot water is solar generated. The toilets are dry compost toilets, emptied and cleaned daily. Your compost contributions are then used the following year to enrich the soil and feed the plants! We have a kids’ playground area with swings and slides, and hanging chairs in the trees. Amidst the gardens there are various shaded and comfy areas to sit in. We also have an ‘Open Farm’ where children can have the opportunity to have contact with and learn about the animals and nature. Children can stroke and feed the animals, and help pick the fruit and vegetables. BeachOur freshwater lake has its own private beach, sun chairs and shaded areas. It is a fantastic spot for swimming, sunbathing, water games, picnics or just relaxing. Water floats, games and a kayake are available for use on site. BeachBareventsThere is a bar serving some alcoholic drinks, juices, smoothies and acai. Behind the beach is our new Inspiral area, a circular space made with a reciprocal roof. The land exhibits the art and functionality of permaculture, with beautiful gardens amongst a small working farm. Just 6km from the Alentejo and Vincentine coast, you can explore the array of wild and wonderful beaches close by, surf the waves of this renowned coastline or kayak up the Mira and Odeceixe rivers. Experience the exquisite portuguese cuisine and soak up the atmosphere in the nearby towns of Zambujeira, Odeceixe and Sao Teotonio. Nearest airport Faro (1 hr1/2 drive). Nearest train connections from Lagos or Funcheira (45 mins drive) CATERING: Breakfast is provided by us and served in the Reception Area everyday at 9.30am. We offer a buffet of local and homemade breads and pastries, jams, ham and cheese, yoghurt, cereals, seasonal fruit and fresh juices and hot drinks. BeacheventsSPECIAL EVENTS: Our house chef can provide guests with picnics and food for any special occasion such as a birthday, wedding or anniversary. The resort is ideal for hosting such special events and has already held weddings, hen and stag nights and group parties. Aterra has also held many courses and workshops; providing groups with accommodation, food, working and communal spaces. By utilising our additional Morrocan and Indian tents we can create extra spaces. CLEANLINESS: Aterra’s staff ensures that the resort is always kept clean and tidy. Toilets, showers and communal areas are frequently cleaned and daily room service can be requested for an extra cost. Towels and our natural soap are provided for all sinks and showers. CONNECTIONS: We arrange private transfers directly to and from Aterra; to Faro airport, train and bus stations or local sites.
