'Les Hiboux' self-catering gites are situated in the hamlet of Crezieres. In Chef Boutonne,10mins drive, there are restaurants and bars, supermarkets, banks and other small shops, including 2 bakers. There is a weekly market and tourist information available there. Poitiers (1hr drive) has a great range of shops and Futuroscope. Vallee des Singes, (45mins) is an excellent day out for younger families. The silver mines at Melle, are 20 minutes away. La Rochelle (1.5hrs) has a large marina and a great aquarium. Excellent beaches near La Rochelle including the beautiful Ile de Re. Cognac the home of brandy, is within a 60-minute drive. Canoeing, kayaking, lake-swimming and horse riding are available locally. The Poitou-Charentes region has many delights. Its varied landscape is steeped in history and tradition. Visitors can explore picturesque hilltop villages and medieval towns, Romanesque churches and cathedrals, ancient abbeys, châteaux, museums, and art galleries.
