Family-friendly home in Nõmme

Our home is welcoming families and small groups of friends who wish to experience the local life in peaceful and natural environment while still having quick access to central Tallinn. The apartment is a 1,5-bedroom home with open kitchen/dining/living room in an old wooden building from 1928, located on a second floor (no lift). The home is renovated using only natural materials (reed mats, lime plaster, natural oils and paints) with as many of the old details preserved as possible. As we are still in the middle of the renovation project, living in an old apartment also means creaky floorboards and natural ventilation from windows and under floorboards (perfect for summer, somewhat less so for winter) as well as paint and plaster that have character. It is our own 'real' family home in Estonia, so you will find our books and all the kitchen equipment in the apartment but we have cleared the storage space in other areas for your use. We use ecological/fragrance/colorant free cleaning detergents and steam cleaner for cleaning. There is an open kitchen/living room with an extendable dining table. The kitchen is equipped for about 5 people with gas stove for cooking, a large fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, water kettle and a smoothie blender for your use. There is a Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair for younger kids if you should need one (no baby support though). There is a TV and a DVD player with some DVDs for your use, and a 2nd gen Apple TV to log in to own streaming services (no local television/cable connection/subscription), bluetooth speaker + wifi. Double bedroom (size of bed is 160x205) opens to the kitchen/living area but can be separated by a curtain for visual privacy. A baby cot can be fitted into the double bedroom, if needed. We use our separate twin bedroom as a kids' room with 2 single beds (sizes 80x200) and a large closet. To make travel easier with kids - there is an indoor swing, a doll house and from a drawer under one of the beds you can find some Lego Duplo's and other toys. The sleeping options make the home most comfortable for 2-4 persons but a camping bed (80x205) can be added to either the twin bedroom or living room for the 5th person (please consider that the space will be quite tight in this case). Both of the bedrooms have doors to the large bathroom with underfloor heating, changing table for babies, a sink and a bath with a shower as well as a washer. Toilet is separate from the bathroom. Our home is laid out on two floors but only the lower floor is for guest use, so you do not need to climb the very steep stairs you find in the living room. The lower floor will be in your full use - while we keep some of our personal things in the apartment (you are more than welcome to find something interesting to read from our living room library), we will not be there during the guest use. Please respect our privacy in terms of upper floor. As we share our time between different homes and countries and appreciate how nice it can be to 'share the local lifestyle', we try to do our best to make your stay in our home as comfortable as possible. If we happen to be away (which is mostly the case), we arrange practicalities through a contact person but are always there ourselves by mail to give advice and help with any questions. Nõmme is one of the most valued neighborhoods in Tallinn - it is full of historical wooden buildings and beautiful nature. The apartment is located in a quiet small street with little traffic, just a block away from the nature reserve area of Nõmme-Mustamäe, stretching for kilometres with beautiful nature trails for walking, running and cycling (as well as skating, sledging and skiing during the winter!). The centre of Nõmme is 500 m away - there you can find a daily farmers' market selling local fruit and veg and much more (at the cafe besides the fountain ask for 'kohupiimatasku' - a delicious pastry filled with sweet cream cheese). The only open air pools in Tallinn are 2,5 km walk away, next to an adventure centre and a historic park. Work-wise, the apartment is close to Tallinn University of Technology, Sky pe's offices and Tehnopol for example - though by quick access to town by train, most of Tallinn is within easy reach. You can park your car free on the street in front of our house but when preferring public transport there are plenty of options. Train station of Nõmme is ca 600 m away and the local electric train takes you to the Tallinn central station (Balti jaam) in just 11 minutes. A bus stop is at the end of our street, ca 400 m away and there are several bus lines to both centre of Tallinn and other parts of town. Taxi from the centre of Tallinn at night-time costs about 8-9 EUR. The easiest way to get to us from the airport is by taxi (we can help you arrange one before arrival) - the distance is ca 9km and travel time ca 15 minutes (depending on traffic, of course). If on budget (and not carrying heavy luggage), there is a bus line from Ülemiste jaam (ca 1km from the airport) directly to Nõmme. For anyone with pet allergies - we do have a family dog and a few guests have staid with cats, so there might be traces of both in the home.
