The Retreat was fully renovated in early 2013 and released as a holiday cottage in May of that year by the owners who live next door at Prestwood. Sat in the centre of the beautiful conservation village of Ashover with an award-winning CAMRA pub just 150yrds away. One of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire, with a 15th Century Church, Ashover won the Calor Village of the Year competition in 2005. It has been said that the village is home to a couple of ghosts, including the Laughing Cavalier who haunts the Black Swan, and that arrows for the Battle of Agincourt were made here! The village was important to the lead mining and quarrying industries and was also home to the stocking frame knitting industries, but little of that remains. Today, Ashover is valued for the beautiful countryside that surrounds it and better known for the Ashover Show in August and the Ashover Festival in September.
