Emma Dent Cottage, Sudeley Castle, Cotswolds
Emma Dent; Sudeley Castle, Cotswolds - sleeps 6 guests in 2 bedrooms
Named after Emma Dent (née Brocklehurst), who started the restoration of Sudeley Castle in the 19th Century, there is a real sense of history about this pretty, light and airy cottage. It is to Emma Dent that we owe the splendour of Sudeley Castle as it stands today. For almost half a century she dedicated her life to the Castle, building the Jubilee Buildings of the West Wing, the North Tower, the two gate lodges and the present entrance to the Estate, as well as laying out the gardens, including planting the magnificent yew hedges. The accommodation is arranged over two floors. Guests enter from a covered porch into a hallway area, with handy coat hooks, then pass through to the open-plan dining-kitchen area, with a large window in the kitchen overlooking the woods. To the left of the dining area is understair storage (baby and cleaning equipment) and a spacious W.C. Off the kitchen, and down two stairs, is the bright and airy, triple-aspect living area, with seating for six (one sofa bed), which leads out through French doors to a courtyard with a table and seating. Upstairs (via a carpeted staircase with handrail) there is an en-suite double bedroom with king-size bed and an en-suite twin bedroom. Ground Floor The ground floor of Emma Dent Cottage features a bright and light open plan area, furnished with English country cottage fabrics and light oak furniture. Dining Area: The centrepiece of the dining area is an oak dining table and chairs to comfortably seat 6. To the left of the dining area is a handy understairs cupboard housing a travel cot, stair gate, highchair, iron, ironing board, airer, and bedding for the sofa bed. A spacious W.C. with sink featuring sage-grey Shaker-style panelling is next to the understair cupboard - a handy facility for guests using the sofa bed. Kitchen: The fully equipped kitchen, overlooking the woods leading up to the Castle, has a country-cottage feel, with fresh off-white coloured cabinets and wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, crockery and glassware you need for a self-catering holiday, including a Neff cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. A welcome pack of teabags, Nespresso coffee pods, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, jam/honey mini pots, boiled sweets is provided for your first day at the Cottage. Living Area: The triple aspect Living Area is wonderfully light yet cosy and features two large, sink-in sofas (one is a sofa bed) and a comfy armchair, plus an oak coffee table, large Samsung Smart TV and DVD player. French doors lead from the Living Area to a patio with seating and chairs, the perfect spot for an evening drink after a day exploring the Estate or wider Cotswolds. First Floor Carpeted stairs with a handrail lead upstairs to the two en-suite bedrooms: Bedroom One: Along the landing and down a step you'll find the king-size double bedroom with a very spacious en-suite. The bedroom windows look out down the length of the main Sudeley courtyard, providing a great view of all the cottages.
