Tranquil cottage in an idyllic Kentish village
Perfect for visiting the Kent countryside which is peppered with stately homes and castles, Pear Tree Garden is set in the middle of a fruit farm with nothing but beautiful views of the Garden of England surrounding it. 1/2 an hour from Royal Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks, an hour from historic Battle and Hastings and 45 minutes by train from London. Folkestone, where you can drive through to France via the Eurotunnel, is less than an hour away. One hour from Heathrow and 40 minutes from Gatwick Although situated in the Pear Orchard of our home, Pear Tree Garden has its own parking area and path. A welcome hamper will make you feel at home on arrival. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, freezer, oven & hob, microwave and washing machine. Towels/bed linen/toiletries all provided. Outside you have a patio with Garden furniture and a barbecue. For your information, we very occasionally have friends and/or family staying in the apartment above. You have complete access to the cottage, patio and pear orchard. Our house and Garden are completely separate. As my wife and I are professional musicians, we do not have a regular day-to-day pattern and one of us is usually around, should you need us. West Peckham is a tiny, gated village - one of only two in the entire country which you cannot drive through. Once past the white gates, you will find only the gorgeous Saxon church of St. Dunstan and The Swan on the Green, a gastro pub with an excellent menu of freshly cooked, local produce. if you are into your beer, it has its own micro-brewery! There are often social events held on the green outside The Swan including Morris Dancing, fetes and live music. Although a car is necessary, public transport is never far away. Tonbridge station, 20 minutes away, will take you to Hastings one way and Charing Cross (the heart of London) the other. Hastings will take just over an hour and London, around 45 minutes. Alternatively, Borough Green Station, just 15 minutes away, will take you to Victoria in London (45 minutes) or historic Canterbury (a little over an hour). We have BT Fibre wifi so great speed and reception. Wifi details in the cottage. If you like walking, our cottage is situated on The Wealdway which runs from The Thames at Gravesend (where Pocahontas is buried) to Eastbourne on the south coast, although I doubt you would want to walk that far!
