Large Restored Gascony house with Pool in Rural Setting
The entrance to the house is glorious - with wrought iron gates the pillars of which are guarded by a pair of lions. The driveway with plenty of parking brings you to the front entrance. The painted shutters and masonry give the house a feeling of warmth and grandeur. We have had the joy of watching our children grow up here summer after summer and have had so many happy holidays staying here with various combinations of friends and family. It is the perfect retreat, a great escape from the ratrace, where days disappear planning restaurant lunches, bbqs, cards & ping-pong tournaments, visits to local markets, golf, walking, cycling, hide & seek, football or simply sunbathing and swimming. Outside there is a large covered eating area, great for breakfast, lunch and supper all through the spring, summer and autumn. A door from here leads to the enclosed gardens and pool area to the rear of the house. The pool is 12 x 6 metres with steps leading in, and there are plenty of cushioned sun loungers as a well as a folly for shade when the summer temperatures soar. Night swimming with underwater lighting in the pool always an event! From the covered eating area double doors lead to the kitchen - which is large and fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your party. A further table for meals here seats 12 adults comfortably. Behind the kitchen there is a utility area with washing machine, a large second fridge and double sink. A downstairs shower room runs off the utility room. The corridor from here leads to the back staircase. Along the front of the ground floor of the house there are two large reception rooms - one with tv, and a selection of boardgames, puzzles and books, the second is quieter and a lovely room to get away from it all. Both rooms have open fire places - perfect for winter stays! Between the two salons is the front door and the hall way with a glorious oak staircase rising to the first floor at the top of which you can access two of the double bedrooms (both en-suite). A half staircase from here leads to the converted chai at the back of the house from which there is access to two twin bedrooms each with their own en-suite bath/shower rooms. There separate access to the last two bedrooms via the staircase to the rear of the house. The larger of the two rooms is a king-size double room with its own adjacent bathroom. The other is a gorgeous twin room with en suite shower room - both of these rooms overlook the pool garden. The tranquil gardens surround the house - with various outbuildings including an open fronted, lit barn housing the ping pong table. Views of the Pyrenees from the balcony are simply stunning. The house is perfectly located just 10km from Marciac where the world famous jazz festival takes place in late July to early August annually. Maubourguet and Plaisance are almost equidistant from the house. Tennis, golf, waterskiing, canoeing and many other activities are available locally. Local cuisine and wines are exceptional and there are both wine growers and food producers locally to visit. We've been going there for 16 years now and we love it so much that we decided to buy it! We hope you will get as much joy from your stay in our beautiful gascony home.
