Our flat offers great views of the River Crouch – among the best in Burnham, we think. (These pics of the river were all taken from the flat!) If you’re coming here to sail, to walk our miles of seawall and river paths, to birdwatch, or just to get away from it all, we think you'll be delighted. Set in a well-looked-after (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) s block just 25 metres from from the river, the flat has been lovingly renovated to the very highest standard, with a modern gas boiler for hot water and central heating. With attractive Italian ceramic flooring thoughout, the flat has been tastefully refurbished and furnished with a minimum of clutter to keep the emphasis on the fantastic view. The airy, double-aspect lounge offers uninterrupted views of the wide and ever-changing River Crouch – a popular yachtsmen’s destination for more than a century. From there, you can gaze across to a major international wildlife sanctuary on the opposite bank, and beyond to Southend and the Thames estuary. (On a clear day, you can see all the way to Kent - feel free to take advantage of our vintage binoculars!) Both bedrooms* have comfortable king-size beds, and wardrobes offering plenty of hanging space, while the fully-equipped kitchen has its own river view - washing up has never been less of a chore! Equipment includes a new electric cooker, a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, Krups espresso coffee machine and a microwave, as well as a kettle and a toaster. The bathroom offers a toilet, washbasin and a new and generously-proportioned shower with plenty of hot water on tap. A washing machine is tucked away in a cupboard in one of the bedrooms. *We suggest the flat is most suitable for two people, though with two bedrooms, it can accommodate two couples at a pinch. PLEASE NOTE: The flat is on the second floor - great for the views, but not so great if you have limited mobility, as it is reached via two flights of 14 stairs. I live a mile away and can be contacted in the event of any queries or problems. I am occasionally out of town at weekends, but there is always someone nearby I can call to help with any practical problems. The flat is part of a smartly-maintained private development with well-tended gardens, free parking - even its own dinghy park (space subject to availability). A minute’s walk east along the seawall is the famous art deco Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, while the same distance in the other direction you'll find the historic Royal Burnham Yacht Club. A few paces further take you to Burnham Quay and the charming, attractive town centre with its quaint Victorian clock tower, pubs, excellent coffee shops, gastro-pubs and fine Italian, Thai, Chinese and Indian restaurants. (We especially recommend the Ground Coffee Shop in the High Street - they even deliver! See menus in the flat.) ATTRACTIONS AND THINGS TO DO Burnham and the surrounding area has many popular attractions: * About a mile away, at the other end of the town, you'll find Mangapps Railway Museum. *A little further out, at Creeksea, The Parlour Cafe is a coffee shop on a farm with its own Disc Golf course, as well as a gym and spa. *Across the river (accessible via the ferry, which regularly leaves from the jetty by the White Harte Hotel, a couple of minutes along the seawall from the flat is Lion Creek and Lower Raypits Nature Reserve, in Canewdon, a massive 65 hectare reserve, by by the Essex Wildlife Trust. *About 10 miles away is Bradwell, offering some fantastic scenic walks by the sea and St Peter's Chapel, one of Britain's very oldest churches! * Maldon, 12 miles away, has the historic Hythe Quay - home to the famous and beautiful Thames barges (charter trips available) and the attractive Promenade Park. *Another fascinating local attraction is Stow Maries Aerodrome, a restored First World War airfield, from where pilots once flew to intercept maurauding Zeppelins. * Further afield, the RHS's celebrsted Hyde Hall garden is a mecca for lovers of all things garden-oriented, while a 40-minute drive takes you to Southend, where a stroll 1.3 miles out into the Thames along the world-famous pier is always a treat. Burnham Town Council's website has an excellent and comprehensive section covering attractions and facilities for visitors, with links to all the relevant websites. (Hidden by Airbnb) "Burnham Town Council" to find it. Getting there: By Car: Burnham is (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minutes' drive from central London. By Rail: The town is on the scenic Crouch Valley Rail Line, with regular train services to and from London Liverpool Street (approx 70 minutes) and also London Southend Airport (approx 45 minutes). Buses: There are limited local bus services linking the town with Maldon and Chelmsford. The River Crouch seawall path runs a mere 25 metes from the flat, offering access more than 30 miles of wonderful scenic walks on the estuary and the coast.
