La Haye, a Manor in the Normandy Forest
An idyllic site in a forest clearing, away from all roads and all other dwellings. This historical Manor with its dove cot, stables and outhouses dates back to (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and was in the same family for 400 years. It is a charming place, little known except to sportsmen, nature lovers and historians, a real haven of peace. The house has been carefully restored by its present owners who have lived there for the last 30 years making it a perfect stop over on the way further into France. Oak beams which were trees at the time of the first crusade still do their job. The bed rooms are large and comfortable with beautiful views of the forest. They each have en-suite bath rooms as well as television and Wifi for internet access. The bed rooms are on the first floor and each has a separate stairway and exterior entrance. Breakfast is taken in an elegant ground floor room next to the farmhouse kitchen or on the lawn outside, on small tables, if preferred. We have a lot of information about this area at the disposal of our guests and are happy to make suggestions and give advice. There are a lot of interesting places to visit in our area, like the fascinating little towns of Lyons la Forêt ( a unique 16th century time warp) or Gerberoy, an amazingly pretty place, or the impressive fortifications of Château Gaillard (built in only one year by Richard the Lion Heart) or Gisors( the frontier of English Normandy, and the France of the french Kings). There are the abbey ruins of Mortemer, the much visited gardens created by the impressionist artist Monet, and within striking distance the towns of Rouen and Beauvais where there is a great deal to see, not forgetting all the festivals and the open air markets. You need an independent means of transport when you come to stay with us since we are far from all public transport systems. The geographical coordinates of the house are: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) SAT NAV will find us if you enter: town "Mont Roty" street " La Haye". It will take you from the village of Mont Roty (the nearest town is Gournay en Bray) along a narrow road into the forest to a cross roads known as "les 4 cantons". Follow the road to the right and then take the unmetalled road staight ahead, the Route Forestière de la Haye.( Sat Nav does not recognize forest roads and will try to take you off to the right so now forget Sat Nav) The house is 1Km further on. Alternatively, you can take the road D916 towards Les Andelys from Mont Roty and turn left into the forest after 2km, along the Route Forestière Du Vallon. Then branch right after 200m, up an un metalled road, La Route Forestière de Viseneuil which takes you to our clearing, the house is on your right.
