Beekeepers Cottage, Idyllic Country Retreat
**BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS decor from 16 December** A charming self contained, 2 bedroom country cottage. Beekeepers is part of a converted Victorian barn set on a 14th century farm beside a sleepy lane with fabulous walks on the doorstep. It is perfect for exploring 1066 country and with Hastings, Battle and Rye just a few miles away there is much to do and see! Dogs are very welcome. Small orchard with picnic table and bbq. Lovely local pubs, villages and beaches. TV, WiFi, Alexa and parking. Super cozy and toasty warm in the winter months. We have an eco/environmentally friendly biomass boiler and heating system serving the entire farm. Guests can choose just how warm they want to be with individual controls for each cottage. There is a small orchard with a picnic table and bbq exclusively for Beekeepers Cottage guests. Situated in a quiet location between the villages of Sedlescombe and Westfield (around 1.5 miles either way) both with lovely pubs serving great food and beer! Whilst the cottage is a little off the beaten track we have lots of choice for beaches or country walks, activities, country houses and gardens or shopping (inc. mainstream, antique, quirky or local produce) in the area. Have a look at the guest book for a few ideas. For nature lovers there is an abundance of wildlife with badgers, foxes, fallow and roe deer as well as buzzards, a heron, dragonflies and the not so wild farmyard chickens! We also have horses on the farm. Sole, private use of a small orchard with a picnic table, barbecue, a complimentary bag of charcoal and bbq tools, complete with a gingham tablecloth! I will be available for help, directions or suggestions on activities if required but will not intrude if you'd rather be left to your own devices. The barn is converted into 2 cottages so offers the opportunity for dual family/friends stays (both cottages sleep 4 so total 8). Beekeepers Cottage has just had a makeover and this is the first time in 20 years that it has been available as a holiday cottage! I'm really looking forward to welcoming guests to Mashefoldes Farm and sharing a new, exciting chapter in it's nearly 500 year history. We are situated 5-6 miles from the 1066 towns of Hastings and Battle with Rye about 7 miles away, all have lots of quirky and antique shops to nosey around. There are some wonderful beaches (a different beach every day, even if you come for a couple of weeks) and it's also a perfect base to explore famous gardens, vineyards, houses and castles at any time of the year. The nearest pub, The Queens Head, is situated in the idyllic village of Sedlescombe and is really worth a visit! It's 14th Century and full of character and charm, beams, large open fireplaces and a big beer garden not to mention great food and real ales. There is a large choice of other pubs and restaurants in Battle, Hastings and Rye which are 10/15 minutes drive away. Beekeepers Cottage is a short distance to several National Trust and English Heritage properties, the nearest being Battle Abbey, Hastings Castle and the 14th century Bodiam Castle, complete with drawbridge and moat! There are also several famous gardens, including Great Dixter, Sissinghurst, Batemans, Herstmonceux, Pashley Manor and Scotney Castle. From Bodiam you can enjoy a magical ride on the Kent & Sussex steam railway through stunning scenery of the High Weald. The cottage has lovely walks fom the front door and there is easy access to extensive footpaths including The 1066 Walk which retraces the footsteps of William the Conqueror from Pevensey via Battle to Rye, passing through stunning Sussex countryside and takes you through ancient towns and villages, over hillsides and through woodland, passing oast houses, windmills and monuments along the way. PLEASE NOTE *There is a pond (very pretty) near the cottage - small children will need supervision at all times! *There is a motocross running 6 Sundays a year on a farm adjacent. It's great fun to go and watch and if you're not interested it isn't too intrusive BUT it does start at 10am so if you're after a loooong lie in on a Sunday, those would be the ones to avoid! *The second bedroom has a day bed giving the option of having it as a single room, a twin room or a double room. Please let me know when booking how you would prefer it laid out during your stay? *The shower room is off the main bedroom (no bath). The loo is separate and off the entrance hall. Beekeepers Cottage has car parking space and somewhere secure to keep bikes and it is recommended that you have your own transport to take full advantage of what the area has to offer. However there are 2 buses an hour from either village with access to both Hastings, Rye and beyond. The closest train station is Battle. The cottage is located between the villages of Sedlescombe and Westfield - about 1.5 miles either way and approximately 5 miles east of Battle and 6 miles north of Hastings. It is less than 2 miles from the A21.
