The cottage dates back many centuries and is part of the most historical centre of the village. The cottage offers a warm, cosy, romantic feel, perfect for couples looking to get away. From the minute you enter the front door to the living room with the log burner stove, to the minute you lay your head on our pillows you’ll experience the comfort we have to offer. Every detail of our cottage has been carefully thought out to offer our guests a relaxed stay. We offer a welcome gift on arrival and all the basic necessities needed, from Jam, honey, oil, salt, tea bags, coffee for our Neapresso machine to washing up liquid, toilet roll and kitchen roll. The living room offers a large sofa and a cuddle sofa perfect for cosy evenings in front of the fire or reading a book whilst you enjoy your tipple of choice. We also offer Free WiFi, Netflix and dogs are welcome. We require a minimum of 2 night stays. The kitchen leads off the living room with all the utilities required for your stay, including an oven and a microwave. There is a dinning table which seats 4 people, cleverly handmade using reclaimed wood. The kitchen leads to a private yard offering privacy from neighbours and a bistro set for alfresco dinning and a chiminea. The living room also leads to a downstairs shower room, with a walk in shower, toilet, quirky sink and original stone walls. Our master bedroom is accessed via a solid wood stair case and offers the comfort of a four poster bed and a double ended Victoria and Albert roll top bath with traditional features. There is a toilet and a sink located just off the bedroom. The cottage offers fresh towels, bedding, slippers and dressing gown for your stay as well as a welcome basket. Guest have full use of the house. Parking is available over the lane and the surrounding area free of charge. Just a stones throw away from the local pub, and a corner shop catering to all you basic needs. The village is situated centrally from Darlington (a 15 minute drive east), Barnard Castle (a 10 minute drive west), West Auckland (a 15 minute drive north) and Richmond 25 minutes south. All of which are beautiful towns offering a variety of shops, bars, restaurants and tourist attractions, such as Raby castle, Barnard castle, Bowes Castle and Walworth castle. Also worth visiting is Bowes museum situated in Barnard Castle town. There are many other little villages worth a visit, Staindrop, Bowes, Mickleton. The cottage is situated on the bank of the river Tees with in Teesdale, which is a 100 mile stretch of country walks from the Pennine way and the North Sea. Many of these walks can be accessed on foot from the cottage. The Gainford spa is a hidden beauty, a natural fountain that is said to have healing water. Piercebridge Roman fort is a 5 minute drive with a coffee shop and butchers. If your looking for a spa day, The Manor House is situated a 10 minute drive North near West Auckland, Redworth Hall (10 miles/18 min drive), Headlam Hall (1.7 miles), The Marriott Hotel Garage Spa (10 miles). There are some lovely places to eat nearby, the local Cross Keys pub a mere 24 steps away, Raby Hunt at Summer houses (4miles), The Fox Hole in Piercebridge (3miles), and the Black Horse Ingleton (2miles), Baydale beck inn (5.5 miles), the spotted dog (4 miles), Archers Ice cream shop (6 miles). There are local buses from the village and a Toms Pie van attends the village every Tuesday. Check him out on (Hidden by Airbnb) . There are Local farm shops just a (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minute drive away, Ulbany medieval farm shop (4 miles), Mainsgill and cross Lanes. Hamsterly Forrest and High Force waterfalls are only 40 minutes away and perfect for a day out. We recommend you come in your car, however there are many scenic walks right on our doorstep and a bus to Barnard Castle and Darlington from the village. We don’t have many rules here, this is your space to enjoy how you will. But we do ask when you use the bath try not to splash water over the sides of the bath to avoid getting the bedroom carpet wet. Please try and keep dogs off the furniture, although we know how sneaky they can be when you’re not looking and try not to break items as the cost of replacing these has to come from somewhere and we are trying to keep the cost of renting out our cottage reasonable for everyone.
