The Alkifron Hotel was built and curated with the personal care of the Papoutsi Family. So what we wanted was to find a name that matched the character of the "house". We wanted a name as unusual as our hotel. Too many opinions and ideas. Alciphron was an erotic poet, sophist and letter writer. Everyone knows the big names that the ancient Greek literature bequeathed to us (plato, Thucydides, Sophocles). Near them, however, there is a plethora of smaller ones. One of them is Alciphron, who lived shortly before the theocratic hand of Emperor Theodosius to permanently bury the ancient spirit (3rd century Ad). Alciphron dealt mainly with correspondence, a species beloved by the ancient Greeks. He wrote letters with agricultural, fishery and erotic content, as well as with the subject of partners and parasites. The parasites were outcasts that the rich invited to their banquets and imposed on them all kinds of humiliation to have fun. Alciphron also wrote the love letters between Menander, the well-known comedian and Glykera, an unknown girl. The letters are distinguished for the subtlety of feelings and language, for the tenderness and liveliness of the images and the originality. One could say that the author's style is documentary and shows a person who has lived what he negotiates from his relative. Alciphron wrote a total of 116 letters which are preserved in four books (fishery, agrican, pest, corporate).
