Cosy Cabin Nestled Deep in the Sturt Valley
Come and visit the Adelaide Hills and stay in a cosy, fully renovated 1969 vintage caravan with all the amenities you could want, nestled deep in the glorious Sturt Valley. You'll be surrounded by wildlife on a working permaculture-focussed farm, on the banks of the Sturt River away from the noise of the city and in one of the states premier wine producing regions. Not to mention, a great little isolated spot to keep your distance from the world outside for a few days. The Adelaide Hills may be one of the most picturesque and romantic destinations in Australia - we certainly think it is. That’s exactly what we aimed to encapsulate when we decided to convert our little old caravan into a fully self-contained cabin and share a little part of our paradise with the rest of the world. Today, our cabin sits snugly just metres from the banks of the Sturt River and is a perfect retreat for couples or just those looking for a little escape from the world. Whether you're looking for a cosy base from which to explore the hills, you want to shut yourself in with plenty of coffee and shelves of good books, or you just want to get a taste of life in this wonderful part of the world, a night or two in our little cabin might be just the answer. A little extra info: We describe our property as a working hobby farm: We keep chickens and ducks, and occasionally, goats, sheep, or alpacas. We keep bees and we grow a lot of our own food. We follow many of the principles of permaculture, and the functional aspects of regenerative agriculture can often override the beauty of manicured lawns and weed-free gardens - though we do try our best. The cabin also has a small footprint, to keep things functional and cosy (but not cramped) the toilet and shower facility is just outside the door and across the deck, and due to the proximity to the waterway, a compost/chemical toilet was the only reliably eco-friendly option - imagine a quiet, more spacious airplane bathroom, just out in nature a little. It's not uncomfortable - in fact, most people say it adds to the experience - but it is unique, and I want to be as forthcoming as I can be. When you arrive, you'll find a small welcome pack which will contain some simple instructions on how to use it, along with a bunch of other information on how to maximise your cabin experience. We don't offer a prepared breakfast option, as we are often not around with any certainty, but upon request, we can supply you with everything you need to prepare your own. This does incur a small fee, but we are always happy to oblige. Perhaps you just want some locally sourced fruit and yoghurt, or you'd like to whip up some bacon and eggs fresh from the coop you can see from your bedroom window. Just let us know ahead of time and we will get you set up. The cabin is now air conditioned! Summer is a magnificent time in the valley, and we are welcoming guests all summer long! Please note before booking: We take our security and that of our guests very seriously. Please include the full names of ALL guests who will be staying on the property when booking. Failure to do so will almost certainly result in a rejected request. Please also ensure you carefully read the directions on how to find us which we’ll send out once booked. It’s not difficult to find us, but you won’t be entering g through the main gates, so it’s important you read the instructions carefully. The cabin will be 100% yours when you book. You won't be disturbed unless you have questions, something isn't working, or you otherwise invite us in. With that said, you will likely see us around the property from time to time, taking care of the grounds or the animals. We live elsewhere on the property with the rest of our family, so there's always someone about, but you won't be disturbed. I'll be happy to give you plenty of hints and tips on the best things and places to visit while you're in the hills, but for the most part, you'll only see me in the distance, feeding livestock, maintaining the grounds and occasionally chasing my toddler about. Our self check-in setup means you can have all the privacy you wish. We are situated deep in the Sturt Valley, down a quiet windy road headed to nowhere. Traffic is rare. Birds, Koalas, Possums, Bandicoots, our posse of chickens and ducks, and the quaint, gurgling of the Sturt River outside the window makes up the soundtrack of our little hideaway in the hills. Enjoy the sounds of nature or have a go at the ukulele, the choice is yours. Despite feeling very removed from the hustle and bustle of the States capital city, we are located just 30 minutes drive from the centre of Adelaide CBD in one direction, and Mclaren Vale (a world-class wine region) just 30 minutes in the other direction, not to mention being in a premier grape-growing region ourselves. Having your own transportation is best, as getting around in the hills can be a problem if relying on public transport. Ample car parking is available. We have mentioned this in other parts of the listing, but in the interest to ensuring you have the best experience possible, I'd like to reiterate that our cute little getaway by the river was built by us, largely for us: When we started this project a few years ago, we thought it would be a cute little way to escape to in the depths of the winter rains to read, drink wine, munch on cheese we couldn't afford, and otherwise just over-indulge and hibernate. We didn't mind that the toilet and shower were outside, that if you boiled the kettle in winter the windows might fog-up, or that you might need a raincoat just to get to the car... And we hope you won't mind too much either. We certainly aren't aspiring to be a hotel. Just a little, quaint, cosy cabin by the river where you can escape the world, and enjoy a piece of the hills which we think is about as good as it gets.
