Breathtaking Off-Grid Cabin in Rural Devon
This timber cabin is situated on the edge of an apple orchard, nestled in the heart of Riverford Farm, famed for its organic veg . It features a wide, south-facing veranda that offers sweeping views across the Dart Valley. The award-winning Riverford Field Kitchen is within walking distance, as is the River Dart (great for swims). Ten minutes drive from Dartmoor. The cabin has been custom-built to be eco-friendly, is entirely solar-powered and has a simple but elegant self-composting loo. The kitchen is fully-equipped with settings for four, and has a gas oven, four-ring hob, fridge and sink. The open kitchen looks onto the living space, flooded with light from the south-facing French windows. The dining table is extendable, with four chairs, a sofa bed (for two), and a wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings. Ample firewood provided. The living space opens out onto the verandah, with table and chairs, where you can enjoy the unspoiled starry skies of Devon, and a spectacular view over the rolling hills and valley below. The bedroom contains a double bed, curtained windows and storage shelves with towels provided. The bathroom has a sink and shower, and the self-composting loo is just outside. Explore the orchard , canoe the Dart, walk the moors and enjoy the fresh air. Buckfast Abbey, and the beautiful market towns of Totnes and Ashburton are a short drive away. The Dart Valley Steam Railway stops nearby, and you'll also find an Otter Farm, Butterfly Sanctuary, Pennywell Farm (a petting farm for children) and many more attractions. An idyllic retreat. The cabin is on a working farm, and is accessed up a track through a locked gate, past a working set of polytunnels. The polytunnels are in active use by Riverford Farm, and cannot be accessed by guests, but you are encouraged to explore the orchard next to the cabin. I live close by, and am available on telephone and can assist personally in the evenings if needed. Riverford farm is an organic farm situated in the dart valley. It is a beautiful area to enjoy wildlife and has many excellent places to eat and drink, being within 5 miles of Totnes and Ashburton. The cabin is best accessed with a car, which will be useful in getting around the local roads. There is ample parking beside the cabin. There is no public transport leading to the cabin. The nearest railway station is Totnes. As this cabin is accessed through a working farm, it is essential that guests lock the gate after use.
