Quinta de São José -Tourism in a working farm

A Quinta S.José (St. Joseph's farm) is at the Mondego Valley, Serra da Estrela Natural Park, by the Mondego river. It is a B&B apartment with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and living. It is in an active farm, with olive trees. A must for families who enjoy farms and nature! A Quinta S.José - Casa do Raposo is a bed and breakfast apartment, independent from the main farm house, ideal for a family, with access to wide agricultural areas and outdoor activities and welcoming gardens where you can just seat and relax and feel the peace of the sunset in the valley surrounded by mountains. The house has two bedrooms, one double and one single and a living room. In the living room there is a small kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and running water to prepare simple meals. There is a "Nespresso" coffee machine, a kettle and a toaster. I provide the essentials for breakfast for the guests to prepare and eat whenever they like: milk, orange juice, homemade jam, butter, cheese and cooked ham. The house is decorated with vintage furniture from our ancestors, as I am the 5th generation owning this farm. The guests have access to a swimming pool just outside the apartment. The farm has olive trees and pasture land and it borders the Mondego river. Guests can be guided in the farm and enjoy the gardens and all outdoor spaces. Guest must respect the limitations of access to parks with livestock. We live in the main farm house so, in general, I welcome the guests. We guide the visits to the farm explaining the farming methods (the farm is certified organic) particularly in the areas of vegetable garden and olive groves. We give support in the selection of walking tours in the surroundings or in the region under diverse thematic, including environment, agriculture and nature but also history and culture. The farm is outside the nearest village, Aldeia Viçosa, but at walking distance. It is located in the Mondego valley, in a rural area. In the village there are two “cafes” where you can have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. They are simple places where the local people meet. There is also a mini market where you have a nice welcome and the basic supplies. The church, with decorations from the 18th century is amazing and really worth a visit. I will be very glad to guide you and explain its main features and history. At walking distance is also the “fluvial beach” where you can enjoy the freshness of the Mondego waters. The best way to come to quinta de São José is by car. The offer of public transportation is not frequent until the farm. The nearest train station is at Celorico da Beira, at about 15 km. Taxi service is easily available. Casa do Raposo at Quinta de São José is not a hotel but a comfortable bed & breakfast accommodation in the countryside on a working farm. We provide bed and bath linen. We provide the breakfast food, as described, for the guests to prepare. It is intended to those who have a taste for natural spaces, country life and an interest on environment and traditional agricultural practices and associated activities.
