Troglodyte Cave House in picturesque Loire Valley

Experience staying in a troglodyte house - typical of the Loire Valley area - with a modern twist. Built into the hill of the famous Chateau de Chissay, it's the perfect spot from which to explore the picturesque countryside, chateaux, Cher River, markets and antiques. It's a foodies' and wine-lovers' paradise, with excellent restaurants and food markets nearby, and many local vineyards to enjoy Loire Sauvignon and Chenin wines. The property can sleep up to 4 adults and 3 children. The beauty of the cave is that it provides cool respite in the hot summer months and warm comfort, equipped with underfloor heating, during the winter. The living room and bathroom are built into the exposed calcareous sandstone rock. Furnished with a mixture of carefully selected antiques and modern pieces, the space is perfect for families or groups of friends. The bathroom is in the old stable, now fitted luxuriously with walk-in shower and jacuzzi bath. The kitchen/ living room area has underfloor heating and a wood burning stove. The kitchen has all the equipment you could need. The property has three bedrooms: 2 double rooms and one large attic room, which can have up to 3 beds, more suitable for younger people. The attic room is reached via a spiral staircase and has a pool table and table football. It is ideal for kids or groups of friends. Because of the stairs, the property is not suitable for unsupervised toddlers. There is a lovely secluded veranda on which you can have a barbecue or enjoy a glass of wine from the local vineyard while watching the sunset. Note: there is no wifi in the house. This is a blessing for some! The house is located in a small, pretty village called Chissay-en-Touraine, on the Cher river. There is a tabac, a restaurant, a bakery and a car park in the village. In one direction is Montrichard 10 mins drive away, and the famous Chateau de Chenonceau is equidistant in the other direction. Amboise is a 20 min drive, and Tours is 45 min. There is a local train station in Chissay, but driving is best. There is a carpark in the village. You can also rent bikes in Montrichard.
