Just 5 minutes drive from the beach at Poppit Sands, this traditional Pembrokeshire cottage offers outstanding views of the ancient Abbey and village of St Dogmaels with the Teifi Estuary beyond. This friendly village has two pubs. Ferry Inn, chic waterfront pub where we like to have a glass of wine or a pint (walkable distance), Webley Hotel, great for coffee overlooking Poppit Sands, a post office, a convenience store, cool art gallery. Or you can venture into Cardigan to try some of the excellent restaurants there, Cwtch, El Salsa (Mexican), Pizza Tippi and restaurant at Cardigan Castle. Take the boat trip along the Teifi with Dai the Crab from the jetty in Cardigan. St Dogmaels Abbey has a Visitor Centre (with relaxed organic cafe) and there is a working watermill nearby, selling lovely bread (the tour is good). A stroll down to the award winning weekly Tuesday morning food market is a must. Cardigan theatre shows films and live theatre. Get your jumpers and bobble hats on and try the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path which begins at Poppit Sands beach. There is a car park pass for Poppit, so you can go as often as you want. Also plenty of walks from the cottage. There are many beaches up and down this stretch of coast including Mwnt SA43 1QH National Trust) nearby WITH 14th century church and lots of chances to see dolphins. Then into Ceredigion, you’ve got beach after beach including Penbryn, (National Trust), Llangrannog, small fishing village with good surfing and restaurants, Tresaith, Aberporth, Newquay with it’s colourful houses, shops, restaurants, beaches and boat trips to watch dolphins and seals, and go sea fishing. Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron and Llanchearnon (National Trust house). Honey icecream at The Hive is a must. One of our favourite haunts is 20 mins drive at Newport with sweeping long beach and estuary walk, village with cafes and shops and restaurants : The Golden Lion, great food, Llys Meddyg, Cat Rock Cafe at the golf course (good reviews). And then carry on to the Preseli hills. You can walk from the cottage to Cardigan (20 mins) through to the Welsh Wildlife Centre, with hides to watch the bird life. There are events and food festivals up and down the coast throughout the summer.
