Wainui Waterfront - Piwakawaka Retreat

Piwakawaka (Fantail) Retreat offers prime waterfront accommodation in a spectacular, tranquil coastal location overlooking Akaroa harbour. With uninterrupted views and recent renovation of its light, sun filled open spaces, a stay at Piwakawaka Retreat is unlike any other. Perched on a prime location overlooking the volcanic remnants of Banks Peninsula and Akaroa Harbour. Wainui is quiet and secluded, yet only 75 minutes drive from the city of Christchurch, 25 minutes from the picturesque seaside village of Akaroa and 15 minutes from the closest store and restaurant at Duvauchelle. Wainui is a peaceful place, overlooking the ocean with plenty of bird and sea life. On occasion, you may even see a dolphin or two! Piwakawaka Retreat provides recently renovated, sunny open plan living opening out onto a good sized deck overlooking the beautiful Akaroa harbour. The views are spectacular and ever changing with the weather. A heat pump and open fire keeps you cosy and warm and there are plenty of games and books to entertain the whole family. There are 6 stairs on the path leading up to Piwawaka Retreat from the parking area below, and 6 internal stairs connecting the living area to the bedrooms. There toilet is located directly outside the bathroom back door. The deck has glass balustrades and a slider gate but may not be suitable for very small, mobile children / toddlers. There is Wifi however due to rural location data is limited. There is good cell phone reception. There is a Smart TV with Netflix etc and Chromecast for connecting (or via HDMI) from your device. There is a pulley washing line under the deck as well as clothes drying rack inside. Ample cooking facilities are provided along with the pantry essentials you may require while there. There are three bedrooms (a king, a queen & a double bunkroom) and 1 bathroom with a separate toilet. There are duvets, blankets and pillows provided for your use We provide sheets and towels for 2 people per stay and can also arrange bedding and towels for additional guests for a small fee. Everything else you need is there and we offer a late check out so you have plenty of time to enjoy your stay. When you leave, all the cleaning equipment is provided to tidy up after yourselves and leave the place as you found it. We have a cleaner who will do a deep clean after you leave. All rubbish must be taken to Barry’s Bay Transfer Station, open 24/7 and conveniently located just before Duvauchelle at 102 Onawe Flat Road, Barry's Bay. There are steps leading up into native bush in the back section for exploring and another viewing platform behind the house. Our kids love playing in the bush and making huts! There are plenty of smaller and larger walks in the surrounding area as well as bike riding for all ages. The boat ramp is only 50 metres from the front of the cottage and a great wharf to fish from about 200 metres away. There is plenty of exploring to be had around the rocks directly in front of the house and around Anchorage Bay. The stunning, sandy Wainui main beach is about 200 metres in the other direction and in summertime, there is a pontoon for swimming out to. At low tide, the rock pools at the far end of the beach hide a myriad of treasures to explore.
