Set amidst the rainforest, overlooking the Coral Sea, this artist-inspired eco retreat is a place to rest, rejuvenate and be inspired by nature. Nestled on a hillside with no nearby neighbours, our home feels like a million miles away. Completely off-the-grid, and with limited mobile coverage (Telstra only), Cow Bay Hilltop Escape allows you to enjoy the simple things in life: an oversized deck, magnificent ocean views, salubrious sea-breezes and the sounds of the rainforest. Step away from the world, enjoy the solitude and rejuvenate. Cow Bay Hilltop Escape is the perfect place for those who want to take a break, get away from the rush of modern life, or spend quality time with loved ones. Built by artists to inspire their work, the property consists of a three-bedroom main house, a guest pavilion, and an artist’s studio, comfortably sleeping 7. Spend your days enjoying the glorious ocean views, meandering through our private bush tracks, or hunkering down and finishing off that project in the quiet solitude. We provide a fully-stocked kitchen (gas oven, gas stove, kettle, toaster, pots/pans, crockery/cutlery, coffee plunger, turkish coffee pot), a BBQ, games (scrabble, jenga, uno, chess, checkers, cards), a small library of books, binoculars (for nature watching), and a semi-stocked Art Studio. Guests can rent the Main House on its own (3 bedrooms, 3 beds, 1 bathroom, sleeps up to 5), or add on the Guest Pavilion (1 room, queen bed, sleeps up to 2). The Guest Pavilion has its own bathroom and outdoor shower (cold water only!). All guests also have access to our partially-stocked Art Studio, approximately 800m of bush tracks throughout the property—and of course our wonderful views! Although we live in California we have a locally-based caretaker who will meet you on arrival. They will also be contactable for the duration of your stay. We are also available via email. Cow Bay Hilltop Escape is set in the glorious Cow Bay, a small community located in Queensland's World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest. The beautiful Cow Bay beach is 3km from Cow Bay Hilltop Escape. A small number of local eateries can be found within a 5-30 minute drive from Cow Bay Hilltop Escape. A limited range of food/drink supplies can be bought at the local store (approx. 10 minute drive away) but the closest supermarket is in Mossman (approx. 45 minute drive away). Cow Bay Hilltop Escape is located in Cow Bay, Queensland, approximately 2 hours (121 kms) north of Cairns. There are very few public transport options available. Most guests fly into our closest airport - Cairns, then rent a car and drive to Cow Bay. Cow Bay sits north of the Daintree River, approximately halfway between the ferry crossing and Cape Tribulation. To get to Cow Bay Hilltop Escape: (1) Drive north from Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway, past Mossman to the Daintree Ferry (2) Cross the Daintree River (only accessible via the Daintree Ferry, $25 return trip) (3) Drive north along Cape Tribulation Rd for about 10km (12 minutes) until you reach Buchanan Creek Rd. (4) Turn right onto Buchanan Creek Rd. Cow Bay Hilltop Escape is approximately 4.4km from the turnoff. Note that the last 1km of road is an all-weather, 2WD accessible dirt road. Additional directions will be provided on booking the accommodation. Given our remote location, only those with Telstra mobile phones will have mobile coverage. However we do provide a landline phone for emergency and local calls. We do not provide internet access. As we're located in the rainforest you shouldn't be surprised if you see local critters (e.g. monitor lizards, melomys [native marsupial mice]) around the deck and house.
