Surrounded by vineyards and stunning scenery, Viella is ideal for walking, cycling and seeing vineyards or taking part in local fêtes. We offer a double room on the first floor which has an ensuite and air conditioning. A perfect rural treat. We are close to several events including the race circuits in Aydie(5km) and Nogaro( 20km), Jazz in Marciac (25km) as well as places of interest such as St Mont(8km) and Pau (35km). We have completely renovated our traditional Gascon home, but have kept as much of the original character of the house as possible. It is a bit of a tardis. How many of our guests have expressed surprise at the size inside compared to the view from outside!! We have a double room available. It has an ensuite shower room and WC. It is also possible to put in an additional bed. If there are more than 2 additional guests we can accommodate you in another ensuite room. There is independent access, so you can come and go as you please and we have private off road parking. Outside, you will find Clara, our somewhat large, free range pot bellied pig, Poppy, Mutley and Jess, our three slightly mad dogs and Amazon our new three legged arrival. as well as a varying number of chickens! Sorry, but we cannot accept animals as our chickens and dogs have complete range of the garden and we have had some "interesting" experiences with guests dogs. We are situated within level walking distance of the village. Here you will find a range of local shops including bakery, newsagent, pharmacy and grocery. There is also a bar/ bistro and, during the summer months, the village swimming pool is open to all (small charge). We have converted our barn so that guests now have their own lounge which is equipped with TV (french TV), DVD, games including a billiard table, darts and various board games. There is a well equipped kitchen available for use by guests staying 2 nights or more. Outside, we have a terrace and large BBQ which our guests are welcome to use. To cool off, guests are more than welcome to use swimming pool and outdoor shower. Whilst JP works during the week, I am here most of the time. Whether it's providing you with an ample breakfast to get you going or suggesting places to visit and things to do, I am here to help. I also have a licence to provide evening meals with wine. I use local produce and wines to provide a variety of menus to suit your taste. 24hrs reservation needed please! I can cater for ceoliacs, lactose intolerant diets, vegetarian etc, but please let me know in advance so I can buy accordingly. There are things to do here almost the whole year round. Starting with the 3rd weekend in March with the Fête du vignobles de St Mont, a three day event celebrating all things to do with the wine of St Mont. There are plenty of events throughout the summer from the local village fêtes through to international music festivals of Jazz(Marciac/ August), Latin (Vic Fervensac/July) and country(mirande); all within an hour of here. Every 14th/15th august there is the Madiran Fête du vin where you can taste many examples of the local wine and sample local produce whilst being entertained by local musicians/ bands and in wonderful surroundings. We are close to the race circuit of Nogaro where there are a huge range of motor racing and biking events from February through to the end of October. More locally there is the circuit at Aydie which holds Autocross events with sprint cars and Camions. If you are a 4x4 fan, the local clubs hold 4x4 weekends in May, october and November. Outside the summer season, why not visit some of the many local vineyards or join us for the Madiran portes ouvert where many of the local vineyards hold special events to celebrate their wines and produce. A walking fan ? There are many marked out walks all around the area and we are close the chemins de compestelle GR 65 and GR651 Also, Le tour de France passes by Pau every year. Aprx an hour from here. Stuck for some ideas? Just ask! We are about an hour from Pau and Tarbes, the closest airports. Other airports within 2hrs include Toulouse, Biaritz and Bordeaux. The Spanish border is just over 90mins away and makes a great day out. We can pick you up from Riscle ( Bus from Tarbes or Mont de Marsan), but a car is really needed if you want to get the best of the region as public transport is very limited here. Sorry, but animals aren't accepted, but please be aware that we have four dogs (all very friendly!). I am English and speak reasonable French and Jean-Pierre is French and tries to speak a little English. He also speaks some Spanish. As noted above, special diets catered for, just let us know when booking.
