Chateau de Gressoux
The beautiful 200-year-old Chateau De Gressoux has been the second home / artist residence of artist Bert Barten from Amsterdam since 2008. The French environment and the atmosphere there is described by guests as the pure feeling of freedom, a place where everything is allowed. A place where inspiring meetings and conversations take place and where there is room for creation and relaxation. Parties and events are not allowed. Chateau De Gressoux is located in Vesoul, they also call it French Tuscany because of the landscape, the sunflowers and pine trees. It is a beautiful serene area. The French shutters, oak floors and fireplaces let you revive the idyllic French antiquity. The time in which Jean-Etienne-Louis Roussel and his wife, Madame de Dambly, a French royal from Paris, built the chateau and stayed there during the summer months. Het Landhuis has; - An authentic large living / dining room with a huge fireplace and beamer / projection screen - A modern kitchen with an oven, a stove, coffee maker and other kitchen utensils - 6 French-style bedrooms with oak floors, fireplaces and views over the picturesque landscape - 2 bathrooms - A meditation chapel - Sauna - Outdoor pool - A large room (120m ^ 2) - The chateau is surrounded by a garden of 2.1 hectares - A private area where Bert and his girlfriend live during the summer months Three quarters of the chateau is rented out to Airbnb guests, in Bert's private part he invites sometimes international musicians / artists / friends, with whom he creates and relaxes. Bert enjoys immensely when the guests of Gressoux come into contact with his own guests, but it is also great to give the tenants complete privacy during their stay. The enormous building with the outside space means that you will not meet each other. The chateau can be rented from four days. Check-in is possible from 15:00 and check-out is possible until 11:00. There is always someone in the private area of the chateau for calamities and to answer questions. Of course we also like to tell you something about the interesting history of this special place. Information about the owner: Bert Barten is often described as a relaxed old hippy. He composes music, writes and directs theater pieces and gives trainings on leadership and self-development. With his art project "Talking Trees" he translates measurable impulses from trees through technology to music. In this way he wants to keep people in direct contact with nature. Bert himself stays for several months every summer in his private area of Chateau de Gressoux to relax, make music and drink a glass of wine with his guests. In the area around the chateau there is a varied selection of day trips, from the ski area, La Bresse in the Vosges to markets and sporty canoe / walking tours in the picturesque surrounding villages. At ten minutes from the castle lies the pleasant city of Vesoul. Many supermarkets and shops give all the convenience of modern life. The chateau is easiest to reach by car, but there is a nearby train station with a good connection to Paris and the airport in Basel. The history of Chateau De Gressoux: Jean Etienne Louis Roussel build his "castle" at the time that he was together with his wife Madame de Dambly a lady of nobility from Paris. They stayed at the chateau during the summer months. Jean Etienne Louis Roussel died in 1857 and left all his possessions, including Chateau de Gressoux, to eight municipalities. His wish was that it would be used as a charity to teach underprivileged young people a craft. This charity work continued until 1937. The financial legacy of Roussel was not sufficient to maintain the buildings and provide education. That is why an agreement was signed with the Bourdault institution and the domain was managed by the Sisters of Charity until 1986. Since 1986, the Chateau has been owned by a French theater director until Bert became the owner in 2008.
