Closerie Laroche - A Beautiful 4* Holiday Villa
Closerie Laroche is at the very centre of la Coudre and stands in its own grounds of around one acre. The villa is surrounded by tall walled gardens and is accessed through a wonderfully ornate 4 mtr high gated entrance and was once the home to an important grape producer. In one of its many outbuildings the grape press is still present as are some of the barrels used for the storage of Pinot and Cognac, some of the barrels still contain the last few litres of the wine produced on site. The villa is split into two, the owners occupy the northern section and those guests who choose to rent the house occupy the larger southern section. The Southern section offers around 270 sq mtrs and has its own private entrance either through through, the 'Boot Room' or the main entrance hall. It offers, a large sitting room and formal Salon. It has a large, bright and airy country kitchen dining room which is fully equipped with a fridge freezer, coffee machine, microwave, dishwasher, 90cm hob, oven, washing machine and tumble dryer. Adjacent to the kitchen is a cloakroom with toilet and small hand basin. The 'Indoor Garden Room' exudes a Moroccan feel and there is of course the indoor heated swimming pool. Please note the pool is heated from the end of May until the end of September. To the rear of the pool through the double doors can be found a large totally private raised deck area, surrounded by Fig and Banana trees, this rear garden offers tranquillity and is a sun trap. Upstairs can be found three double bedrooms and a single bedroom, two of the double bedrooms are en suite and the third double and single share a large shower room. As you would expect each space is unique and complimented by original artwork and the occasional antique. The house is tastefully furnished and equipped with the discerning guest in mind. You will need a car to get around but although rural we are not isolated. The local bar/restaurant is a 5 minute walk away and also shop selling basic food stuff. The local boulangerie is a 5 minute drive away and the supermarket in Matha 10 minutes in the car. We have covered off road parking for up to 2 cars. Breville is a small, friendly rural commune with a bar/restaurant and shop. Surrounded by mainly vineyards, it is responsible for producing a large percentage of the vines which make both Cognac and Pineau for the large Cognac houses located around 13km away. Once a year the village plays host to the festival of 'Art et Passion du Bois' where artisans sell wooden artefacts and workshops are held demonstrating woodworking skills. Sculptures in wood punctuate the village and surrounding area and provide a permanent visual feast. The village also houses its own artisan baker who fires up his oven on a weekend, a beekeeper selling local honey and an organic Cognac producer. Guests can pay a visit to the distillery by appointment. You will need a car to get about but although rural we are not isolated. The local bar/restaurant is a 5 minute walk away as is the local shop. The boulangerie at St Severe is a 5 minute drive and there is a good supermarket in Matha about 10 minutes away. You are surrounded by vineyards and farmland so there are many pleasant walks to be had. We have parking for 2 vehicles. Closerie Laroche is an old building so there are some uneven floors, the occasional squeaky floor board and the odd low beam or doorway, but this just adds to the character of the place. We live on site and have pets.
