Middle Ninfa Farm Bunkhouse
Middle Ninfa bunkhouse is located on a small farm in historic and beautiful landscape in south-east Wales, within the Brecon Beacons National Park and close to the market town of Abergavenny, famous for its food, cycling and many other festivals. The name Ninfa means cottage of the the charcoal burners in old Welsh as the manufacture of iron was the main local industry when it was built 3 centuries ago high on the old parish road from the village of Llanfoist over the Blorenge mountain to Blaenavon. Its 23 acres of broadleaved woodland and flower rich meadows lie within the Brecon Beacons National Park on the edge of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site and immediately below the Punchbowl lake and beech woodland owned by the Woodland Trust. The farm is situated in an International Dark Sky Reserve and is an excellent site for stargazing. It is also very quiet at night other than owls and foxes! The bunkhouse accommodates 6 people in a converted barn adjacent to the main farmhouse. It is fully self-catering with gas cooker, microwave, fridge, shower and toilet. The groundfloor comprises the lounge and dining area with double divan and heating from a coal effect gas fire set in a stone fireplace. Upstairs on a mezzanine floor reached by a spiral staircase there are four single beds. Note that guests need to bring sleeping bags or duvets, towells and othe linen. Guests can use the seating area beside a small pond and stream outside. There are a number of excellent walks direct from the farm on the mountains above. Printed guides are available for loan. We live on site in the adjacent farmhouse. Guests regularly order farm produce grown on site. We are happy to advise on local attractions, events and places to visit. Abergavenny is a gateway to three internationally renowned landscapes - the Brecon Beacons National Park, Blaenavon World Heritage Site (birthplace of the industrial revolution!), and the majestic Wye Valley. All of these stunning landscapes offer a range of attractions from walking to hangliding, pony trekking and canoeing. Just a short walk from the farm is the tranquil Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The town itself is a lively and attractive market town, with markets most days of the (website hidden) Mary's Priory Church is famous for its medieval tombs and our Borough Theatre has a varied programme of local and UK acts. The town is also noted for its food. In addition to hosting the fourth largest food festival in the UK, there are many restaurants and opportunities to sample local produce, including our local vineyard! In addition, we are just 40 minutes from our capital city, Cardiff - reached easily by car or train. The farm is about 2 miles from the A465 (Hereford/Neath), A40 (Brecon/Monmouth/M50) and A4042 (Newport/M4). The nearest bus is at Llanfoist (3km) and train station in Abergavenny (5km) with services to Cardiff, Bristol, London and Manchester. Taxis from the station cost about £8. National Cycle Network Routes 46 and 42 intersect close by. On-farm parking for bicycles, horses and cars. The farm is located up a 1 km steep winding and narrow lane, unsuitable for camper vans. Well behaved dogs are welcome. There are ducks, sheep and a horse on the farm. Due to enhanced cleaning necessary for the Covid-19 pandemic, we can now only accept bookings of a minimum of 2 nights and will need 2 nights between bookings. This will reduce the number of bookings we can take. We must also charge a cleaning fee of £20 per booking.
