The Roost - bird's eye view of the countryside
The Roost is a recently-built self-contained loft with secure garage underneath, bordering pasture farmland. This peaceful small hamlet is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with no street lighting and stunning views across the Culm Valley. There are country walks from your door, with pubs nearby. Dogs are welcome, but remembering that sheep and cows need to live in peace in the field right next door. The Roost is accessed via curved garden steps which lead to a stable door. The main room is spacious, light and airy with comfy sofa, dining table and you have fast wifi. Guests enjoy breakfast at the large balcony window open to the morning sunshine and looking straight onto the neighbouring fields. The contemporary and stylish kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge with small freezer compartment. The bathroom has a large walk-in power shower with twin heads. The roomy bedroom has fitted wardrobes and you can let the countryside flood in through your windows. To preserve the beautiful natural environment around us, we use ecological products as much as possible, avoid single-use plastic and reduce or recycle where we can. Much of your power is provided by solar panels on your roof. Outside, you have a private balcony and deck that is just perfect for sundowners or a shady alfresco lunch, enjoying the views across the valley. We start you off with a pint of local milk, teas, coffee and cereals; let us know if you would prefer non-dairy milk. Underneath the loft is a secure garage space with washer, dryer and sink exclusively for your use, and a hose for muddy dogs! Outside the self-contained loft, you have a sunset patio, secure garage and parking space. We are busy people, so we don't intrude on your break. But we are right next door for any advice or assistance. Hemyock and Culmstock both have pubs that serve fabulous food, and there are many others just a few miles away. Breakfast at The Strand in Culmstock is highly recommended. Devon is famous for its network of hidden byways, deep lanes and ancient footpaths joining historic farms, pubs and villages. You can find lots of ideas on the Blackdown Hills website. Further afield is the Jurassic Coast footpath and beaches. The tow-path of the peaceful Grand Western Canal is nearby. There is a regular bus service to the bottom of the lane (100m) that connects you to Wellington and Taunton, or Honiton and the coast at Seaton. Although we are deep in the quiet countryside, stations for two different main railway lines, the M5 and the A30/A303 are all close by (though well out of earshot!). We always thoroughly clean the entire space between bookings but due to the corona virus, we’re taking extra care to clean and disinfect in line with Air BnB guidelines. The accommodation is separate enough to easily maintain social distancing.
