Comfy and modern riverside bungalow

Our cosy riverside holiday home is only 200m away from the famous Weligama beach, bringing you the best of both worlds. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 toilets and a lovely large open verandah as well as most of the modern facilities to make your stay comfortable. This is our private holiday home which we let out at times when we do not use. The rooms and common areas have ceiling fans. All rooms have mosquito nets. One of the bedrooms has it's en-suite bathroom. The other bedrooms share a common bathroom. Both bathrooms are equipped with hot water. There's also an open outdoor shower to wash off the sand and salt. The house is surrounded by a large verandah to relax on those rainy days. There is a small kitchen with a 2 burner gas cooker and a fridge, a microwave, juicer, toaster... However, there are heaps of food options available in both Weligama and Mirissa which makes cooking optional. There is also a flat screen TV with a HDMI cable, a radio as well as some indoor games and a few books for when you don't feel like going to the beach! This is our home and please use the equipment with care. The property is also secured with CCTV for that additional sense of security. Boat and the land phone at the premises is strictly off limits to guests. Guests have access to the entire house except bedroom 4. Linen and towels will be provided. An extra set of linen will be provided for stays more than 7 nights. We always have tea + sugar at our home. Feel free to help yourself to a cuppa. Check in & out times are flexible unless there is another guest arriving or departing on the same day. Our caretaker Ganeshan will be at the property (separate accommodation) 24/7. We are in Colombo but you may call/message us anytime for any assistance you require. We recommend you to use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps in getting around. It's quite accurate. The bungalow is riverside and only a 3 min walk (200m) from the lovely Weligama beach. You have to cross over the railway, and the road and you are at the beach in 50m. This bit of beach is very quiet and private. Weligama Main Beach Weligama Main Beach is where you get the surf board hires/lessons, resturants etc. This is the stretch of Weligama Beach that is commercialized. If it's the Weligama Main Beach strip you are after, we are about 5-7 min Tuk Tuk ride (or a 20 min walk leisurely down the beach) from the main strip and Weligama town. Weligama Town Weligama is a big town with major banks and supermarkets. Mirissa Main Beach The Mirissa beach is also 2.3km away which is a very short tuk tuk ride from the bungalow. Whale watching tours take place from here and the beach itself has a vibrant nightlife and lots of cafes and bars. Tuk Tuks/Buses There are plenty of tuk tuks (some of them run on a meter) and buses once you walk to the top of the road (Galle Rd). All you have to do is flag them down. Scooter Hire It's possible to hire a scooter (for an international licence holder) during your stay for about Rs. 1600/ per day. Many such rental places are located on Weligama and Mirissa beach strips. Train Weligama town also has a train station. Train schedule is available online. Caretaker Ganeshan is our permanent caretaker at the property. He is there mainly for upkeep of the garden. He has separate accommodation (newly built in 2020) away from the bungalow. He does not speak English. Please contact us if you need any assistance. WIFI and Internet facilities We only have a 60GB plan for the month. Allocation by the provider is peak hrs (8.00am - 12 midnight) 30 GB and off peak 30 GB. Sometimes there are drops in service therefore it may not be ideal for someone planning a working holiday. We urge you to use wifi responsibly as it is limited. Drinking Water We would not recommend drinking out of the tap. Boil the water before use or use bottled mineral water. Mosquito Protection Mosquito bites are inevitable in a tropical country like ours. Mosquito netting over the beds have been provided for you. Use tropical strength insect repellent/Citronella oil/Mosquito coils during your stay in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a country with Dengue epidemic and we recommend you to take necessary precaution. River Beautiful and calming sight but we would not recommend river baths. River water may not be very hygienic and there may be unseen dangers in the waters. Beach The Weligama beach is shallow and very safe even for kids. However, there are no lifesavers patrolling our local beaches like you would find elsewhere. Use your judgement in getting into the water. Also there might be sand flies where you end up going. Be prepared with insect repellants and Calamine lotion. LPG Gas for cooking/Power(Electricity) and Water Outages Currently we are experiencing outages of above in Sri Lanka. For gas, we have a spare cylinder. In case of power outage there are plenty of candles. We do not have a generator. There are severe water restrictions in Weligama throughout the year. If our water tank runs out, it is possible to pump from the well in the property. We urge you to be conservative with your water usage during your stay. Garden This is not a manicured garden. It's a village property with a typical village garden. Enjoy the early morning symphony of birds, monkeys, monitor lizards, crabs etc... Expect the unexpected. Western beaches High/Low Season High season for western beaches are Dec-March. During this time it's less rain, climate is cooler and ocean is not so rough. During Low season expect rains and the weather gets hotter. Sea gets rough and beach recedes a bit comparatively. Washer You are welcome to use the semi automatic washing machine in the house. Please ensure the outlet hose is placed in the bathroom. Incorrect placement will result in flooding. Caretaker will be able to help should you require assistance. Airport pick-up and drop-off We recommend you to book an Uber taxi or Pick-me taxi from the airport. For airport drops, we are unable to provide help as there are only private taxi operators in the area. There are taxis to hire in Weligama near the railway station (or ask around at the main beach strip).
