Retreat for two (plus an ancient fertility stone!)

Great little cottage for 2 (plus cot) on a lane in the middle of beautiful Cornish countryside. Full of character and charm. 10 minutes to beaches, very near the gorgeous Helford River. Only 20 minutes from Falmouth, 25 from Truro/St Ives. 1 hour from Eden Project, Lands End. Tolvan Cross is an ex-smallholding, and Barn Cottage used to house the cows, apparently. Our guests always tell us what a peaceful atmosphere the cottage has, and how much they've loved their stay with us. In our garden you can find the Tolvan Stone, which is an ancient holed monument from around 4000 years ago. Folklore has it that children were passed through it to cure them of rickets - and it's also reputed to have amazing fertility powers. The cottage is very open plan - almost mezzanine - so please realise that sound travels between the upstairs and downstairs. The cottage is heated by efficient electric heating and there is also a woodburner, which is the best (and cosiest!) source of heat in the evenings. We live next door but there is a big wall between the two houses so you're very private. There are no other neighbours. You can park in the driveway or on the road if you prefer. Our gorgeous cat, Oscar, loves to visit guests in the cottage - please feel free to welcome him in if you want! You have use of the whole cottage, plus a little garden which has a table and chairs, a barbecue, a firepit, and a washing line . We live next door and are happy to help with directions and suggestions of what to do in the area but leave you to your own devices unless needed. We are a 5-10 minute stroll from Gweek, a thriving and pretty village at the head of the Helford River. There is a friendly pub which serves food, a shop/post office, the National Seal Sanctuary, a boatyard and cafe, village green by the river (fish and chips sold there on a Wednesday!) and village hall. Helston is our nearest town - about 10 minutes away - with all major amenities. The renowned Trengilly Wartha pub is only a 5 minute drive away. We are ideally placed for day trips, with Falmouth, Truro, Penzance, St Ives, and all the nooks and crannies of the beautiful Lizard Peninsular just a short drive away. The north coast beaches, the Eden Project, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and Sennen Cove/Lands End are all within easy reach as well. You will need a car to stay here. If you'd rather not drive to Cornwall, you can hire a car from Truro train station or Newquay airport. There are very occasional buses from the village. There is wifi in the cottage. We respectfully ask guests to be good neighbours and not to play music too loud. Stairs are open-tread - careful with toddlers.
