Ferme de la Lisière
Charlotte and Alex welcome you to 'Ferme de la Lisière', a lovingly renovated, 250 year-old semi-detached stone farmhouse with a large garden, set on over 6 hectares of meadows and woodland in the green heart of the Perigord Limousin natural park. Just on the edge of the sleepy hamlet of Mazaudet, it's the perfect place to relax, unwind and reconnect with nature. The house is comfortable and spacious, with a homely feel. The large, open-plan kitchen / dining room is the heart of the house, and features a wood-burning stove with a back boiler that runs the heating to ensure that the house is comfortable during cooler months. The kitchen is well equipped, with a large cooker with double oven and gas hob, providing ample capacity to cater for large groups. There are two living rooms, one with a wood-burning stove and TV with UK Freesat, and the other a vibrant space for summer evenings that opens out onto the terrace, with a bar and a huge, U-shaped sofa (that can be easily transformed into a large double bed). Also, on the ground floor, is a delightfully eclectic bathroom, with roll-top bath. Upstairs, there are four light, spacious and comfortably furnished bedrooms, one with a new en-suite shower room. There is also a modern, family shower room with a large walk in shower. Outside, the terrace, with it's roundwood chestnut pergola makes a beautiful place for al fresco dining and entertaining. The garden has plenty of open space to play, and the adjoining woodlands offer wonderful opportunities for exploration and adventure. The unheated above ground pool is available for guests to enjoy a refreshing dip, although we thoroughly recommend the beautiful swimming lake just up the road in Saint Saud, or one of numerous other local lakes, for enjoyable days by the water. Guests have access to the entire house except the loft room, which will be locked, as well access to the terrace and the entire garden. We are living in the adjoining house, so we are always on hand to offer advice on the local area and to deal with any potential issues. We respect our guests' privacy, and ask only that they do the same. Mazaudet is a very small, quiet hamlet and there are some lovely walks through the surrounding countryside and along the picturesque river Dronne. For local provisions, the village of Mialet is 5 minutes drive to the east and Saint Saud Lacoussiere 10 minutes to the west. Both have basic amenities, including a bar, bakery, butcher, pharmacy and a small general store. Larger shops and supermarkets can be found 20 - 30 minutes away in Saint Pardoux, Nontron, Chalus and Thiviers. There are many restaurants, and we will be happy to offer our recommendations. The main local markets in Piegut Pluviers, Brantome and Thiviers offer some of the finest produce in all of France and a delight for the senses. Seasonal outdoor activities and attractions are widely available in the area. Being in rural France, a car is essential for getting around. However, there is a train station 15 minutes away in La Coquille, which offers a handy option for guests wishing to visit Perigueux or Limoges without taking the car. We live in the adjoining converted barn which is attached to the farmhouse but separated by the laundry room which provides a buffer between the two houses so that privacy is assured for both ourselves and our guests.
