Anchor cottage, unrivalled coastal and sea views.
Anchor cottage is in a truly unique location, just off the coastal path with miles of panoramic sea views in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it will take your breath away. A cosy traditional cottage with outdoor Scandanavian wood fired hot tub just 10 mins walk to sandy Trevaunance cove. Anchor cottage is a traditional Cornish cottage which sleeps 4 in two double bedrooms. The sun room contains a sofa bed and can be used to accommodate two additional persons but additional linen and towels are not provided unless agreed upfront at cost so please check with me if this is required. The master bedroom with double bed has an en suite bathroom and the second bedroom has twin single beds and wash basin. There is a second bathroom with full sized bath. The cosy sitting room with TV and fireplace leads into a sun lounge with dining table. The well-equipped kitchen has a small dining area, there is also a little sun trap just through the back door with table and chairs for Al fresco dining. A washing machine is provided in the utility room. Unlimited wireless internet and a wifi nest speaker are provided. Beside the cottage is a Scandinavian wood fired hot tub in a gravel area surrounded by palms. Instructions on use of the hot tub are provided upon arrival - usage of the hot tub is at your own risk. The wood burner does get hot and children must be supervised when using it. Logs are available from the local shops and do allow a couple of hours for the tub to reach temperature. Anchor cottage is accessed via a private drive to a large graveled parking area, the long garden has a stone built BBQ and leads down to the cottage gate. There are further gardens around the cottage with benches at view points and a private lower garden gate with path down to join the coastal walk. Available dates are limited as the cottage is popular and otherwise fully let to returning visitors, many of our guests have taken their 'slots' for decades and pass them down to the next generation ! If you are looking for a 5 star experience Anchor Cottage may not be for you, it's a comfortable, quaint homely dwelling in the most stunning location with everything you need, but more traditional than modern. The cottage and gardens are all for your sole enjoyment. I will not normally be there for arrival but will provide detailed directions, address, postcode and access information by email at time of booking. I don't live on site but I am reasonably local in St Just and will provide contact numbers. The keys are in a key safe accessible by a code I will provide after booking. Instructions for the cottage and use of the hot tub are provided by leaflet upon arrival and also mailed upon booking. The village of St Agnes is close by and has a good number of shops, restaurants and pubs. There is good surfing at the sheltered sandy beach at St Agnes just 10 mins walk down the coastal path and also at the nearby lovely National Trust beach of Chapel Porth. The cottage has interrupted coastal views from St Agnes all the way to Trevose Head lighthouse near Padstow, one of the only such vistas in Cornwall with practically no visible buildings in the view aspect. A new addition at the rear of the cottage is a Scandinavian wood fired hot tub in a gravel area surrounded by palms to relax in after the days activities. Logs are available from the local shops (you will need a couple of bags for each use) and do allow a couple of hours for the tub to reach temperature. A small private gate from the rear garden leads down a short path to the coastal pathway where you can enjoy amazing hiking. My favorite walk is towards Chapel Porth enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery in Cornwall. There are 6 pubs in and around St Agnes, be sure to try the Driftwood Spars up from the beach with it's own micro brewery and the Miners Arms at nearby Mithian serves excellent food in an old world atmosphere. In fact they are all worth a visit ! You are spoiled for choice on the restaurant front, from the superb cuisine at Taste in the village to Al fresco dining at Shooners bistro on the beach, Taphouse in Peterville and many other good local eateries. So grab a home baked pasty from the local village bakery and head off for a surf, swim or stomp along the cliffs. There are surfing lessons, kayaking and coasteering adventures from St Agnes beach and if you spot me there with my blue boat Isalex just ask and I will pop you up some fresh fish and crab ! Alternatively try your hand at kite surfing at Hale or paragliding from St Agnes Head. If the weathers not so good, you will find leaflets in the cottage detailing a wealth of Cornish attractions from Eden, St Austell to The Tate in St Ives, Flambards, The Minack Theatre etc. Look out for local events too from the Carnival, Lifeboat day, Victorian Fair, Steam Rally, Blue Hills time trials, World Belly Board Surfing Championships or Giant Bolster Play - you will find local events across Cornwall advertised in the local Cornishman paper or look up St Agnes online. Or just put your feet up, relax and feel at peace at your beautiful cottage, have a BBQ in the garden and watch the sun sink into the ocean. St Agnes has a good bus service, but most guests bring their own car. The lane to the cottage is an unmade road and there are a few potholes to navigate, however this road is being tarmacked in Nov 2021. The cottage is available for minimum of 5 days stay, but weekly 7 day bookings are preferred with Saturday changeover day. During peak rental periods (school holidays etc.) all rentals must commence and conclude on a Saturday. Arrival is after 3pm and departure by 10.30am. All bed linen and towels are provided for the week. The immersion heater has a boost dial for additional hot water if the tank is run off situated above the bathroom door in the utility room. There are night storage heaters in each room and electric blankets are available on request. Due to lower water pressure in the area, both showers in the ensuite and the second bathroom cannot be operated at the same time. If you turn on either shower to maximum heat setting it may cut out, so for a steady comfortable shower reduce the heat setting and let in run for a minute. There is a digital TV and DVD player and unlimited wireless internet connection and a wifi nest speaker. Mobile signal is limited for some providers and you may need to step into the garden to get signal.
