In the newly awarded Unesco World Heritage site, Bodefryd is an unique, generously proportioned detached townhouse, with big, light rooms, high ceilings, and full of period features. The house is perfectly located for anything Snowdonia, with easy access to everywhere in the National Park. Bodefryd is also the kind of house you'd be happy spending a rainy day in. After Covid19, let's all tread lightly, and be thoughtful and kind. The house is comfortable, spacious and well equipped for self catering groups of 8-10. We've decorated the house with furnishings that make you feel genuinely at home, as well as being reflective of it's history. You can see the steam trains arrive and depart from the big south facing windows, not to mention the vista stretching for miles all the way to Trawsfynydd. Environmental Credentials We are trying to consider our impact on the environment in our day to day lives. You might like to know that: Electricity in Bodefryd is 100% renewable. Gas is carbon offset, and we are open to better options for the future. Recycling is made easy for you. We have a household compost bin that helps the garden, so we welcome any of your uncooked food waste. All the soap, washing up liquid and washing machine liquid are refilled locally to save on plastic packaging. The products are also environmentally friendly ones too. For your stay, check out my guidebook for local shopping, especially Y Siop Werdd, our town zero waste weigh shop, where you can refill the glass milk bottle provided, and get seasonal and no plastic wholefoods and products. And excitingly, we are working on ‘Hendre’; our stone cabin in the woods. Just 20mins drive from here, our tiny bunkhouse is half way up a mountain, off grid and remote, offering a return to a simpler life, even if only for a few days. Coming soon in 2021. We live separately in a flat below Bodefryd. It's completely separate from the main house with separate entrance. But we're normally on hand for any queries or help. Explore the incredible landscape of Snowdonia, whilst residing in its heart; the town that roofed the world. We've just been awarded Unesco World Heritage status for the surrounding slate mined landscape. Situated on the high street, Bodefryd is minutes walk from local shops, cafes, and pubs. But everywhere you look and walk, you'll be reminded that you are in mountain country. The views loom up all around the town. Just a stone's throw from Zip World Llechwedd site, you can experience the thrill of zip lines, the fun of bouncing in caverns, and the history of this fascinating town of slate…and more. This site is also the home of Antur Stiniog downhill bike trails. If you’re into climbing mountains, you’ll be pleased to know you can bag The Moelwyns from Bodefryd’s front door. And there are countless other walks all around, including into the unique landscape of the slate quarries. And you can even sample our village day and night life at CellB, the old police station turned cinema, bar and music event venue. We are so excited to open up Snowdonia to you. A 10min drive takes you out onto dramatic moorland and breath-taking scenery. Slightly further afield you have the famous Betws y Coed, just a 15min drive (or take the mainline a few stops down the line), for more stunning walks, waterfalls and mountain lakes.. Porthmadog (you will have often heard this town’s name on the radio sited as the highest recorded temperatures in Britain!) is also just 20mins drive away. But why not take the steam train all the way to town, from the station that’s practically in your own back yard (check post Covid operation). Here you have a mix of local and national shops, with everything from camping equipment to artisan crafts and local Portmerion wares. But you’ve also access to some of the most beautiful beaches and coastline in the county. If castles are your thing, our nearest Dolwyddelan castle, is just 10mins down the road. And go and visit the huge Harlech castle by the sea with incredible views and just 30mins drive. Go adventure cycling, walking or running in Coed y Brenin forest park, 30mins drive. Of course Snowdonia is most famous for its mountains, and for climbing further afield, you are absolutely spoilt for choice, not to mention choosing from one of 7 routes up Snowdon. You will find everything you can possibly need nearby, from guides for potholing, caving, climbing, traversing, white water rafting, canoeing, to any equipment you might require.
