Charming Family Home, Corwen
Our home is in the heart of Corwen, a small but welcoming town with all the basic amenities. The house has lots of character. We have enough space to sleep 11 people over 5 bedrooms, BUT we recommend it is more suited to 8 people, as the dining table only sits 8 for instance. It has a great new kitchen and living space with a log burner, and a sml game room in the loft with a Wii etc. Great for families and groups of friends alike. Walk, cook, read, relax! 2 double bedrooms 1 single beds room loft room with a double bed. adjoining loft room with a sofa bed + single day bed (game room!) We have a travel cot in the loft and a high chair in dining room which you are welcome to use. (please bring linen for the travel cot) There are lots of toys and books, a dolls house (and a WII in the loft) and kids bedroom, which again, you should feel free to use. All we ask is that you leave them as found, clean and unbroken. Or, just replace what gets broken - it happens! The doors are all very old so please bear with us as we renovate each door - there are a lot of them and we are making our way through the house so they close properly etc, but don't lose their character. Please bear in mind the stairs are NOT SMALL CHILD FRIENDLY - SO ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON ANY KIDS OR (DRUNKEN!) GROWN UPS. The lovely kitchen/cellar stairs are very open, so we have added a stair gate and blocked the balustrade to ensure young children and dogs don't squeeze through and fall, but we ask you please keep an eye on them all the same. There is only one shower / bath in the house, so if there is a large group wanting to stay, please do bear this in mind. There are two loo's! Access all areas, but please take care of our lovely new kitchen and don't put hot things like saucepans etc on the wooden surface. Abul's curry sauces - whilst fantastic - do stain, so please be careful! We are always available for questions and queries - never worry about (ideally) texting or calling. Also my mum is just across the square so can help with anything local! She is always happy to help in any way she can - we are very lucky! Otherwise - we will leave you to it! This is the perfect base for all manner of holiday stuff.. If you are active: White Water rafting Cycling Walking etc etc... I'm afraid we are VERY lazy.. so don't do much ;-), BUT we leave lots of leaflets in the house manual are there is LOADS to do, be it on the canal in Llangollen, horse riding with Spring Hill bespoke riding, walking and cycling and fishing in Llandegla, walking in Snowdonia etc etc. Basically Corwen is perfectly in the midst of lots and lots of activities. You might like to use your car, but the bus routes are often and regular to Wrexham / Chester / Llangollen / Barmouth etc etc. Again, the timetable is on the hallway table. Its really cheap too BTW, and a bit of a thrill ride given the local bus double decker drivers...!! Eating Out: Restaurants and pubs are abundant in Corwen, so enjoy exploring. We like the Crown for a Sunday lunch, and the chippy does a great (well priced) fish'n'chips. There is a tapas pub (pretty basic tapas, not exactly Spain...) but its a nice bar, and our favourite has to be Abul's curry house, voted Best Curry House in Wales 2015! Everything is within a very short walking distance! Shopping: Food: Tesco's deliver if you have an account, but you may need to give lots of notice as there are not many slots. Tesco's are in Ruthin (about 9 miles away) and Morrisons are in Wrexham (about 15 miles away). If you want really lovely fresh food (though they have a great freezer section too) go to Rhyg Estate which is just 1.5m up the road, but it is expensive, but worth the odd treat for sure! For basics you have Bargain Booze, across the other side of the square towards Llangollen, and they are very well priced, especially for booze! There is a bakery on the square, and an excellent pharmacy. NOTE: Wednesday's and Saturday's are HALF DAYS. Gifts: There is a lovely gift shop called Pethau Tlws (Pretty Things) run by Pam and Lynne. Do pop in, they are lovely and helpful, with a well priced good range. Very tempting to buy a lot of presents! Car / Parking: Parking is OK outside the front of the house but only for one hour at a time, but the free parking outside of Corwen Farmers / Ivor Williams just around the corner (away from the square) is just 2 minutes walk away. Bus Travel: The best way to get around if you don't have a car. Bus stop is just outside of No 1 The Terrace, but there are also more bus routes from the car park where the health centre is, just behind Simon's DIY. Timetable is in the house, and makes for great days out. Train: There is also a charming steam train which runs to Llangollen - well worth a trip! Taxi's: Don't get used an awful lot as the distances to travel are generally quite far. Fire: Please be careful with lighting a fire... its a hot smoky thang, and can get TOO HOT AND VERY SMOKY if you build it up too big! Please help yourself to the seasoned logs etc, but please do replace what you use by popping to Simon's DIY and just asking them to deliver when its convenient (don't worry if you're not there - they will deliver when we are next home!). If you can't be bothered, just leave a few quid on the mantel. Any new logs should be left in the cellar with the orange bagged logs to season - they are horrible is not seasoned!! HEATING & HOT WATER: Hot water is always available. We manage the heating remotely using the HIVE system, so please text me if you want it on more or less. You're welcome to operate it manually too, using the thermostat controller outside the bathroom. More instructions are in the house manual, but please don't worry about texting us to get it set as you would prefer. RUBBISH: Re-cycling: We leave the bags in the laundry room: We will collect and make sure the rubbish goes out on the right days IF you are not there on the rubbish days. If you are, we won't bother you, but please do look at the dates on the cellar wall - the laminated card tells us what days we put out what rubbish. The orange bin goes out every week, but the pink and clear ones alternate each Friday. Bit of a pain, but thank you for trying! Clear: Re-cyling instructions are on the bags. Pink: For all normal rubbish Food: Use the small green bags (bottom drawer in the kitchen) and the apple on the window, then put those in the orange bucket in the cellar. NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE - NOT EVEN VAPING. Thanks. We kindly ask you to strip the beds at the end of your stay if you are able please. Just stuff the used linen into a pillow case and leave all linen, inc. used towels in the laundry room, please. Thank you for helping us in this way - we really appreciate it.
