Skimbleshanks is a self-contained shepherd’s hut for two, with luxuriously comfortable double bed with all seasons duvet. En-suite shower room with complimentary toiletries. Kitchenette with all the basics ready for your arrival. For the chilly winter evenings you’ll find a cosy log burner laid and ready to light. Outside facilities include designated parking, private outdoor seating, bbq and fire pit. Uniquely situated next to the West Somerset Railway at Dunster Station, you have an enviable view of the steam trains as they pull into the station. In the other direction, uninterrupted views across the fields to Dunster Castle and Conygar Tower. You have sole access to the shepherd’s hut and the grounds immediately surrounding it. You also have shared access to some other parts of our garden. Skimbleshanks is located in the grounds of our own home and so we are usually available, should you need advice on eating out locally, sightseeing, hiking or anything else. We’re happy to help if we can. We’re perfectly situated to explore the local area. A 10 minute walk will have you at Dunster beach, from where a cycle path extends to Blue Anchor where you can grab a hearty breakfast. Or 15 minutes in the other direction will get you to the beautiful medieval village of Dunster, with its cafes, gift shops and restaurants. The adjacent steam railway operates between Minehead and Bishop’s Lydeard near Taunton, from where, a short bus journey will take you to Somerset’s county town and beyond. Minehead is full of individual shops, bars and restaurants, as well as being the gateway to Exmoor: heaven for hikers, mountain bikers and nature lovers. As well as the seasonal steam railway, there are frequent bus links from Dunster and Minehead to nearby towns and villages. Please be advised that steam trains are NOT quiet. Trains usually run between April and January, calling at the station twice an hour and they sound the whistle every time. The daily timetable usually operates between approx. 9am and 6pm. Whilst we love the trains and many other people do, if this is not up your street then, please consider this before booking.
