Rothesay is the main town on Bute, and where visitors to the island arrive. A bustling hub by day, which quietens after the last ferry has departed. Rothesay is a traditional town, boasting many beautiful Victorian buildings, with much investment in these beautiful buildings in recent years. Dominating the shoreline, amongst the glorious esplanade gardens, is the refurbished Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, a unique 1920s circular structure of cast iron and glass, now incorporating a cinema, theatre and many interactive displays as well as showcasing the best of Bute. Visitors can also explore the impressive Rothesay Castle, its dungeons, with thick outer walls and grand hall, which are all now fully restored. Just behind it sits the fascinating Bute Museum. There is also the impressive Mount Stuart House and gardens, which are a must to visit during your stay. To the north is the splendid Art Deco Pavillion building, which is currently being refurbished. The property is situated in Craigmore, in a very quiet neighbourhood, and is less than 2 miles from the town centre. Bute is very accessible via the ferry from Wemyss Bay on the Clyde coast. Wemyss Bay has a train station, and services to and from Glasgow connect to the ferry. The ferry takes 35 minutes to reach Bute, and is run by CalMac and accommodates cars and foot passengers. The ferry terminal is in the centre of Rothesay and it is easy to get around Rothesay on foot.
