La Châtaigne
Les Coumayres is a beautiful newly renovated 16th century farmhouse in the mountains of Languedoc, surrounded by lakes, hiking treks, old villages and stunning countryside. The house comprises the main family home, four self contained holiday homes and an incredible hall with table and seating for 20 guests. There is a heated swimming pool, children's adventure playground, tree house, play pond, large stone BBQ and many terraces to explore. The owner lives on site with his family (10 year old twins). The house has a 30m long shaded south facing stone terrace with incredible views towards the Pyrenees. La Châtaigne is accessed from the main terrace at the front of the house, with its own kitchen and dining area, wood burner and terrace with external sofa and table and chairs. Upstairs there is a double bedroom and second bedroom with bunk bed. The farmhouse and land has a magic, tranquil atmosphere. In the evening the building, terraces and drive are lit up to create a wonderful ambiance allowing guests to enjoy the atmosphere in to the night. We have many children's toys, instruments and costumes and children often make friends and entertain their parents with shows on the main terrace. Les Coumayres is a sociable place for guests and children can be free and creative in a safe environment, surrounded by nature. There are many tracks and gardens to explore the wonderful countryside. The weather in summer is usually sunny and comfortably warm, unlike the coast which can be too hot. All the gites are tastefully renovated to provide modern comforts yet retain the feeling of the 16th century. Les Coumayres is shared with the owners family who live there during holidays. Guests have their own self contained accommodation each with own private entrance, outside furniture and terrace. The swimming pool is heated and open in summer. As there are four gites it is likely you will share the pool and terraces with other guests. The owner lives on site and is available to welcome you and offer help during your stay. Les Coumayres is a 10 minute drive from the nearest village of Riols where there is an excellent boulangerie. San Pons des Thomieres is 15 minutes drive from Les Coumayres where you can find many restaurants, traditional market, pharmacy, doctor, supermarkets, bus connections and so on. There are many beautiful old villages to explore as well as lakes, trekking paths, kayaking, zip lining and canyoning. There is an excellent traditional auberge restaurant 5 minutes drive with incredible terrace views of the Pyrenees and Mediterranean.
