The Garden Apartment in Shaker Hollow is a unique,comfortable,private and quiet 2 bedroom (1 double bed, two single full beds) apt,with sitting room, bathroom and kitchen, in Shaker Hollow, a classic 1795 colonial, overlooking 3 1/2 acres of garden and meadow .Up your private stone steps from the drive to thecovered porch and entrance there is a small terrace with a metal dining table and chairs as well as an outdoor sofa .There is also a gas grill .There are views of the garden, firepit and meadow beyond. Directly inside the entrance is a small mud room which opens to a full country kitchen with seating for four at a farm house table. The kitchen has an antique 50's stove( 4 burners , grill, oven ) , a full fridge and smaller drinks fridge, a regular toaster, a toaster oven/ microwave, kettle, coffee maker ,double sink and laundry .The kitchen is fully equiped with pots , pans , plates, cups , glasses etc .The stairs from the kitchen lead up to a sitting room with a large convertible sofa , desk and antique furniture.There is a Sonos speaker , board games and cards for entertainment .There are 2 bedrooms down the corridor from the sitting (Website hidden by Airbnb) bedroom has 2 full size single beds and the second bedroom has a full double bed .Both have ample closet space .There is a full bathroom off the sitting (Website hidden by Airbnb) and beach towels , soap and shampoo are provided .The whole space is furnished with a collection of eclectic antiques and flea market finds . There is ample parking. Stone steps to the house may not be appropriate for anyone with mobility issues . The apartment is its own separate space and is not shared with the owners I shall be available to meet guests and help them settle in .If there are any questions I shall be available at all times .If you are considering bringing pets we need to discuss prior to confirming your booking . South Salem is a semi rural wooded area in Northern Westcheater on the border with CT.The nearest village , South Salem which is approx 1/2 mile away has a deli for basics(coffee, homemade donuts , sandwiches, newspapers ) and a church .Ridgefield CT which is 3 miles away is a vibrant classic New England town with good restaurants , stores and the Aldrich Museum.There are the surrounding towns and villages of North Salem, Pound Ridge and New Canaan .Katonah, which is 12 to 15 minutes drive away is a charming small town with the nearest Metro North train stop.The train is 1 hour into Grand Central with frequent trains every hour Ward Pound Ridge Preserve is 5 mins drive and is a 3500 acre wonderful area for hiking , camping and x -country skiing Caramoor music festival and Katonah Art Museum is also close by.The immediate area around the house is a combination of paved and dirt roads and is generally fairly quiet . There is no local public transportation .You need a car to get around. The nearest metro north station is Katonah and the second nearest station on a different line is New Canaan The stone steps(approximately 10 steps ) from the driveway parking area up to the apartment entrance are uneven ,with no rail and not recommended for persons with a walking disability. I do occasionally allow well behaved , totally house trained pets but please discuss with me prior to booking if you would like to bring a pet along .I ask that they are not left unattended at the house and guests take full responsibility for them in the space and on the property . I do also apply an additional pet cleaning fee .
