Captivating 1-bedroom studio in Halikounas
Peaceful Spiti Pyrgos is just 7 minutes walk away to the beautiful stretch of golden sand that is Halikounas beach and Lake Korission. This is a quiet, deeply rural location perfect for lazing on the beach, walking, exploring and soaking up nature. Ideally situated on the south west coast between Lefkimmi and Corfu town for exploring the stunning area, our nearest village with shops is the traditional hill village of Agios Matthaios (3.5km), or Moraitika and Messonghi for some night life (5km). Corfu town with its international airport is about 25 km away. On the edge of a Special Bird Protection Zone, Lake Korission is a wonderful area for bird lovers with many species passing through during migration periods. Kite surfing is popular on the beach due to the prevailing winds. We are also very close to the route of the Corfu Trail, which extends the whole length of the island and takes approximately 10 days to walk. There are a lot options for visiting beautiful beaches in the wider area such as Prasoudi (3km), Alonaki beach (1km) or Boukari and Notos on the east coast. Spiti Pyrgos is our part-time home and we are aiming to be environmentally friendly and self-sufficient in the near future, gradually developing the gardens. The middle level of the house is for guests accessible by a short staircase. In total we offer 2 double ensuite rooms with their own access and a one-bedroom apartment with double bedroom, bathroom and living room, where a further bed is also used as a sofa (see our other listings). This particular listing is for a double room with 2 single beds. We aim to create a sense of ‘home-from-home’ for guests rather than the usual holiday let. You are welcome to explore, enjoy and even help in the garden - hopefully we may have some fresh vegetables and fruit for you! We cherish the peace of our home so there is no TV. Wifi is free. We have a good selection of books and games you are welcome to borrow. One of the many joys of Corfu is the outdoor life. Each space has its own balcony for you to enjoy and we have created an outdoor kitchen with traditional ‘fournos’ - a wood fired oven. This enables guests to fully self-cater in generous comfort at all times of year. When we are not resident, guests are looked after by Julia, who has a wealth of local knowledge, many years of experience in hospitality, and will help you with any little thing. She lives close by in Moraitika and will visit regularly. We aim to provide our guests with the privacy and freedom they would enjoy in their own home, but the benefits of local host information and support. Corfu is an incredible island full of beautiful beaches, amazing food and incredibly friendly people. There are many historical and cultural places to visit. Life here is lived in the slow lane with a lot of time taken sat outside cafes and bars with a coffee or a beer chatting in the sunshine. There are so many different foods to try and it's all so fresh - never have tomatoes ever tasted quite so good! There are 3 restaurants within a few minutes walk of Spiti Pyrgos open throughout the tourist season and serving great local food, as well as a wealth of other options a short drive away. We do recommend that you hire a car or motorcycle in order to get around freely. This really is a rural area and there is no local public transport beyond Agios Matthaios. The most frequent bus stops are Moraitika/Messonghi as they are on the main road south, and there are good local taxi services which can be arranged for guests. Moraitika/Messonghi are about 15 minutes drive from our property at Chalikounas. Bicycling is popular, with rental available through a local firm which will deliver to us and pick up when visitors finished with them. Our guests have found this a very satisfactory way to explore the immediate area of the lake, other nearby beaches and local villages.
