CN Steel Caboose : Smiths Falls
The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is pleased to offer the rare opportunity for guests to sleep in a caboose for an authentic railroader experience. Curl up in our comfortable pull-down beds with fresh linens and relax in the quiet glow of the lantern. This is a 1967 CN Steel caboose. *Please note this is not a hotel but a unique glamping experience.* The inside of the Caboose is fit with electricity, yet still has the original setup. This includes three foldout benches that become beds, a raised area known as a "Cupola", a writing desk, a stove and a sink. Please note that the stove and sink are no longer functional, but there are electrical outlets provided. A small kitchenette (fridge, sink, microwave), showers and washrooms are available inside the museum station. Please note that the cabooses are not air conditioned, however a fan is provided for you during the warm months, dress accordingly. By staying in our cabooses you will get the authentic feel of what it was like to live on the railway. One staff member or volunteer will be staying/on-call overnight to answer any questions or concerns you may have. During the day, the museum will be open to the public. Public access runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are within short walking distance to the Rideau Canal (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), many local restaurants and shops, picturesque parks and trails, and our lovely downtown area. Smiths Falls is a small town with taxi service and many amenities within a short walking, biking or driving distance. Many maps and local tour pamphlets are available at the museum More photos to come!
